My question is what are the advantages and or disadvantages to having larger pumps? For example my Grasshopper 428D has hydrogear 21L pumps but I have no idea how my parker wheel motors are rated. I assume the bigger the pump the more power they draw on the engine. What is the determining factor for speed and torque. Someone please explain the correlation between the pumps and wheel motors. Also if anyone knows what size are my wheel motors?

I would not assume that just because the pump is bigger that it requires more power. I would guess that if you have a big pump you can pull bigger hills faster and that would require more power but the pumps should run cooler. I don't know if you can have one pump for two drive motors but if you have a bearing failure it is better to have sperate hydro systems in case debris gets loose. I guess big stuff cost more money, is that what you are worried about?
