I have always liked kawi but I wanted to see what everyone else has.

Kohlers are OK but the Kawis are just so much smoother and start so much easier.

I am curious who voted briggs? I never thought of them as commercial.

I like Kawi and Honda makes a good engine! My Exmark has a 21 hrs Kawi.

I have a 13 horse Kohler Commander on my 36" J.D W/B I can't STAND IT! Hard to start, tempramental, backfiring, loud, SPAZ!

Yes it is, it's sitting up front.

I thought about it after I posted my response to the question and I must say, I have taken that J.D. w/b though some of the tallest weeds and branch/twig filled crap you've ever seen and I NEVER killed the engine...it bogged a few times but NEVER died! I just hate the fact that it's a pull start and if it's in a mood it's a pain in the ass! Not the smoothest running engine either, but from what I gather, it's a pretty good engine. I wouldn't want a Kohler on my ZTR though. Then again, mine is a single Cyl. and I have NO EXPERIENCE with a Kohler two Cyl.

No offense to any Kohler fans! Kohler feels like a Briggs & Stratton side kick to me. ummmm.... no offense to any B&S fans either! LOL

HOPE YOU ALL HAD A HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

The main reason I started this poll was to help me decide what engine to look for in a used walkbehind or which one to get if I buy a new machine.

Looks like the poll is favoring kawi. Just as I predicted.

6 hp Kawasaki (179cc) on 21" toro proline
5.5 hp Honda GXV (163cc) on 21" honda commercial
6.5 hp Briggs Quantum I/C on 21" Lawnboy commercial

All three have been very good but I like the kawasaki the best. Smooth, strong and reliable. Cuts through any type of grass with ease. The Honda and Briggs have a tendency to bog down in thick, lush turf.

I totalluy agree. I had a 14hp kawi on my exmark viking and it ran like a charm. Now my scag that i just bought has a 12.5 kolher on it and it sucks. Lucky i have an extra Kawi 12.5 hp laying around  . I haven't decided what i am goign to do with the kolher, maybe use it as a paperweight:weightlifter: . Kawi is the best. Don't get me wrong. Kohler makes some good engines. i just perfer the KAwi over the kohler. LawnInOrder

Hey wildWest i have use the kohler command 13 hp and it it the most strong runnig motor ever. you say backfiring and hard to start sound like a valve adjustment to me. this is what happened to my briggs the valve were out of adjustment which resulted in rough idle and hard to start and backfiring. but then again it could just be the carb
