Thanks for everyone's input re: Stolen Work.
Now a new question (just curious) How many of you get holiday tips from customers?
Anything unusual, say a huge amount of $$ or funny, like an old, regifted fruitcake?
Just wondering.

I have one residential account that gives me a $50 gift card to Outback or something like that every year. Other than that, it's hit or miss each year.:)

not from the tightwads I service. I have only received one tip while working in the past 3 years and it was earlier this fall from a one-time job in a city I don't normally work in.

I get $25-100 from most customers. I do have a customer that I got this year and he has been know to give people that do work for him crazy stuff like the one guy got a new 60" tv. I can't wait! He bought his girl friend a BMW X3 3.0lt for her b-day and they broke up and she got to keep it too.

That's really good. Speaks volumes about your company, your customers must be pleased.

about 8 or 9 of our clients, tip everyyear, got some new ones this year so we'll see what happens,
have had people tip us like 20 bucks during the rainy season for pulling up and waiting on the rain to mow there yard,
i have never got a holiday tip.. on some landscape jobs people have rounded up the amount to a even number on their check, i assume this is a tip but really its just a pain in the ass because i have to redo the invoice for the sales tax.. once we all got bottles of homemade wine from a customer. one of my workers was so excited he kept taking about how he was going to take his girl to the beach that night and drink it.. well when we got to the shop he got out of the truck and it rolled off the seat and smashed on the ground u should have seen the look on his face.. i busted his a$$ about it then gave him my bottle and told him i would clean up the glass..

I get a few gift cards from customers, maybe $100 tops for the season.
I would think some of this depends on your location...if you're still working regularly around Christmas probably more likely to get tips? A lot of customers now, I'm done with them for the year. A month before Christmas. Out of sight, out of mind?
