While checking my search engine ranking I discovered a Magnetic Sign maker had listed my company under his portfolio/resume thing on his website. I have never spent a penny with his company, nor had I ever been to his website. I sent him an email and demanded to be removed from his list. There was another builder from my town on there and I'm 99% sure he had his magnets done locally also. I think this scumbag just googles businesses from each state and then lists them as clients.
I'm listed here: http://www.magneticsigns.com/mapct.html
You might want to check and see if you're listed too.

I saw a good friend of mine's business listed there. I will have to ask him if its true.

the owner did respond. They count inquiries for work as something they've done and promote it as so. He did have an old email address of mine, which dates back 3 years. His records indicated I asked for a sign/layout. They have a form where you can generate a sign from text or clip-art and get a price for it without actually ordering it. That must be what I did because I have no recollection of going back and forth and requesting a layout and design since I had mine done locally. All in all he was very professional about it.

I checked around for competitors around me but there were hardlty any LCO's listed.
Maybe the sign company you used in turn had him print the signs?

Maybe the sign company you used in turn had him print the signs?not a chance a franchise would hire out something that is their specialty to an online business.

I really don't think that The Ohio State University would have had him make their signs:confused:
I saw some companies on there that do not have magnetic signs. Theirs are either vinyl or painted.

It looks like he generated the list from something like a secretary of state business listing or phone book page. He's trying to make his business look huge adn busy because if he did work for all of them, why wouldn't you chose him?

Whenever I click on Michigan, it brings up an error message saying that it can't find the URL.

Joe, http://www.magneticsigns.com/mapmi.html
Looks like someone edited the index page and it brings up an error becuase there is a problem with the linking. If you mouse-over you can pick out the intended URL

Wow....what a trip. That's odd that he would do that. mean,...usually the idea of listing people like that for a reference type thing,...but this guy takes into trust that no one will bother contacting any of these places. he does the high umbers for more of a bragging right and tries to go on that premise alone; even though he has nothing to do with them.

At first, I thought this was an old thread that I'd read. But it's not. I was thinking of the one where someone's website code was being used by someone.
Glad you figured this one out.
Maybe the company will improve it's policy to use the paid and completed file, rather than the email file to figure out who were customers.
If I used my old emails, I'd have done 20,000 projects rather than the 3,000.
Aren't those web searching tools fun?
Have you ever used the tool that pulls up an archived snapshot of websites from say, one, two or four years back? I forget the name off the top of my head, but it's fairly easy to come by. More nostalgic than productive.
By the way, is it possible that some people might go an extra mile to be polite and professional because they are performing false advertsing and are avoiding stirring the pot to the end of legal problems?
