I made a RBG from a huge floor mount grinder (formerly a real old milling machine)installed a switch to reverse the rotation.On your blade grinders when sharpening on the left side of the grinding wheel do you have the wheel turning clockwise or counterclockwise ?I have been sharpening on the left side with counterclokwise rotation,it tends to suck the blade into the grinding wheel less flying sparks this way.I reversed the rotation and it seemed to take longer plus it throws sparks above rather than below the table. And what is the prefered grinding wheel Rubey or ceramic ?Maybe I will take pictures if anyone wants to see the massive grinder.

Your going backwards!!! If you are sharpening a standard right hand discharge mower blade you set the blade on the table to the left of the stone and the stone should rotate clockwise.
