Digdug- We use that same blade set up on our 1845C. It works great. Have you pushed snow with that loader yet? I had a T-300 that I tried to plow snow with, and it sucked! It was O.K. if the pavement underneath wasn't icy, and if it hadn't been driven on, but when that was the case it would barely move itself, let alone push snow. I haven't tried my CT332 yet, but I'm guessing it won't be any better.
Digdug
01-14-2007, 10:28 AM
Dozerman21- No I havent pushed snow with it yet , and i am nervous. I have plowed last year with that blade and a Cat CTL 257B and it plowed awesome, but the tracks are alot different and i think that could be some of the reason i hear these flat lugged tracks arent plowing good. I wonder if the rubber track companies make a different track for these machines that doesnt have the flat pads on the tracks? I would try a set that had straight bars across them like the Cat. I cant say enough good about how the cat plowed, but it isnt here this winter , it got stolen off a job this summer. doug

Yeah, I looked at one of those 445CT and it was over the $50,000.00 mark. It looked like basically a dozer. The only thing I noticed about it was the booms looked lighter built than the older ones but other than that I would have loved to have it. I like that beacon light on top.
Digdug
01-14-2007, 11:51 AM
Yes , it reminds me of my old Case 350 dozer.
The CASE vertical lift machines had two loader arm configurations. The 75XT type and the 85XT/95XT type. The 85/95 were heavier but blocked more vision. They changed to offering the 435/75XT and 445/85XT with the smaller loader arms. I asked CASE if they are seeing any problems with the loader arms and they claim not. The mechanics of the lift is the same just not as beefy. I would think if there was a problem with them it would show itself on the 445CT. I have run that machine for a short time and did not notice any problem but time will tell I guess. I would not own a machine without ride control. It increases your productivity big time and saves you from getting beat up in the cab.
dozerman21
01-14-2007, 03:36 PM
Digdug- Hopefully it will work well for you, I'm just afraid it will be similar to how my T-300 performed, since the undercarriage and pads are very similar. I think you have the same rubber that I have on my CT332. I would say the reason that you Cat did well plowing had more to do with the suspended undercarriage more than the bar-type pads, although I'm sure that helps too.
Keep us posted on how it does. I'm curious to see if it works well or not. I'll try my Deere out if we'd ever get any snow. We haven't had any this year, just a sh!tload of rain.

01-14-2007, 06:42 PM
Snows headed your way!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you don't think you would be doing much pavement traveling later on and didn't care what your tracks looked like.Seeing this it is a fairly new machine and track good shape ,BUT if track was worn anyway and you didn't care.
Here idea! and i don't even know if you can do it or get them.but how about getting the ice studs ! they use to put in our snow tires. You would have to drill holes and have the tool to install them, but they sure worked on the ice.Come spring might be a little tuff on the asphalt.
If you could make enough money plowing snow ,could just have extra set of track with the studs for snow and ice????? Good luck!

Cat 257b. We use ours for snow removal and it does great. I've tried others in snow and they weren't very fun. This is one of the main reasons we went with Cat, although all of them are great for summer work. I think it is the suspended undercarriage, and the tread pattern on the Cats that makes them work in the snow.

That new Cat looks so cool. The only thing I hate is to use something when it's brand new like that. Just hate to get the first scratch on anything including the bucket. The S175 looks neat with the stump and roots on the front. Looked like it could have been a job getting it out of the ground. I am noticing allot more Vertical lift machines out there. They are starting to be very common with all brand machines.

Right now I have two S300 high flows. One is a 2004 G series and the other is a new K series. Like the G series much more because I think it is a smoother machine but maybe the k series is just too tight with the new 120# chains. G series is easier to service radiator too.

Ya'll got me started. Own jd 270 and a 320, both around 1200hrs. Won't probably buy another one. Not because of the Deere but because of the Deerler (haha). Took the 270 in for a leak under the motor. Loader was totally filthy so they had to spend a couple of hrs. to clean it then located a hose under the motor that was leaking. Fixed it charged $450. That was hard to swallow for a hose but within 3 days it was leaking again. THis time the unit was clean. Going in they said it was probably the return line next ot the other hose. A day later they said it was ready this time they charged over $500. I hit the roof. THis time they didn't have to clean it off like the time before and charged more. I could have done the job in an hr. They have always had problems in the service dept. but the salesman was great. RDO was the dealer.
Have also owned 2 skat traks 1200 they worked great just got to be to small. Also had a mustang don't remember model.
Don't know what i'll buy next. Also if you ever have a guy drive the Deere with the break engaged the pads are internal on the 270 have to pull chains, pumps just to get to it.
Ok i vented.

I am the proud new of a cat 247b i have a pretty extensive background w/all types of skidsteers, and now finally own a ctl...., i mean MTL. This unit has so much traction for digging and grading I could not beleive it. After renting a couple of different machines to try(T190,180,277b,case440), not 1, not even the big cat seemed to have the power or turning capacity that the 247b had. Granted the cat machines don't have the highest lift capacities, but man they dig(which is what I do most). Anyway this is my first post and I love this website. I also love my machine!
Having run the 277B and the 440CT, I can't believe that you felt the 247 with 2/3 the hp of the other machines out dug it. The 440CT is an exceptionally good excavating CTL. I have also run the T190 and was unimpressed as well. The CAT wasn't as powerful as it was big. The 440CT is hands down a better excavating machine. The 247 maybe a good machine but I would not have considered it in the same class as some of the others performance wise.
ians06
03-06-2007, 12:01 PM
If you read correctly i said power or turning capacity, anyway for its size it is pretty hard to beat, the 277b did not turn well at all as i dig in very confined spaces, and the 440 stalled on me 5 times while in operation while doing various things, maybe that machine had something wrong, but it was new. Im also talking abt the 247B which has the turbo and compare machine to weight ratio its not to bad as far as smaller frame skid steers its best machine hands down! Thanks for the reply. P.S. I would have been fine if I was given any one of the above mentioned.

Hi ians06,
I have a cat mtl also, my operator loved it.
I hope you have a great experience with yours.
A few things to watch for on it are hydraulic cooler leaks, tracks failing, rollers falling off, track frame problems. Watch that undercarriage very closely. Religiously watch track tension, as soon as any thing shows up get after Cat asap or you will be on your own. The Cat rep told me they anticipate up to $15/hr on undercarriage maintainance alone. My machine required repairs equal to half the purchase price in the first 2000 hrs.
Talk to your dealer and get a very clear understanding on how problems will be dealt with. I got burned and dont want anyone else to.
Oh yeh, back to the thread, I have owned 2 case skid steers 2000 hrs each, 1 Cat 2000 hrs and soon to be a Bobcat with 0 hrs.

Hey Ontario!!
Thanks for the reply, I have had my 247b for abt. 1 1/2 mths. now and have 65hrs on the clock. I allready had a track derail at 10hrs., (the tracks were loose when I got the machine, and was told to wait until 10hrs. to tighten). I don't know if I would recommend this unit for everyone, I am an owner/operator so maint. is a HUGE thing for me and hopefully I will be one of the few to see 1500-2000hrs. on an undercarriage. I have NO roller wear or track wear at this point and I check frequently. I grease every use and wash as needed. I don't operate in very abrasive material and try to stay off as much as possible. As far as power this machine has a lot. It also digs superbly. I love it and hope I never have the problems you have had. Maybe you got a lemon, or maybe I'm in for a rude awakening. Hope you like your Bobcat, and let us know how it goes, Did you trade in the 257?
