How would you set up the perfect trailer for a 1/2-2 acre account route?

Your allowed 4 mowers on the trailer

#1 1- 21"
#2 1- Walkbehind
#3 2- Riders
#4 2 -Blowers
#5 2- Trimmers

All has to fit on a 16' trailer

1 52" 27 HP Dixon Grizzly with grass catcher
1 42" Walker MCGHS
2 Honda Commercial 21" 's
2 Hsqv. 323L trimmers
1 Stihl FC75 Edger
1 Echo Hand held blower
1 Echo BP blower
Then a toolbox for all the misc stuff, and a front rack for gas cans and whatnot. I am pretty sure that would fit on a 16', but would get a 18 or 20' just for good measure. Would also be nice to be bigger for aeration, overseeding and power raking to haul around all the extra stuff, seed, and fertilizer. Also a gasoline air compressor would be nice.

All this would be pulled by a 2007 New body style GMC 3/4 ton ext. cab 4x4, with either dump insert or dumping flatbed.

Nice set up pro...You would go for the 52"Dixon and not the 60"?? I think you would get all that on a 16 footer:waving:

Yea, around here I know of basically ZERO residential LCO's that run 60 inch mowers. There just aren't enough BIG properties to make it worth it. A lot of the bigger LCO's in town are still running 5022 and 5023 Dixons.

At least that is what I carry on my trailer for those properties. The real question is what do you carry on your trailer for the postage stamp 1/4 acre lots and what size trailer. I was thinking a 10-12 footer will do. I am looking to have a trailer set up for that type of route by March. I was thinking:

44" Quick ( if it is out by then)
2 21" Toro Commercial Personal Pace
1 BR600
2 Stihl Trimmers
1 Stihl Edger
1 Solo Backpack Sprayer

Depends with hills and gates but for my lawns this would be the setup to have.

1) (1) TTHP 52" or/and (1) Lazer z hp 50"
2) (1) Fast 44"
3) (1) Quick 36"

4) (2) echo trimmers SRM-311s

5) (1) echo stick edger PE-260

6) (1) redmax EBZ 7001
7) (1) redmax EBZ 8001 (for cleanups)

Two of my mowing crews run identical set ups:
(1) 48" Hydro walk behind
(2) 48" Walker GHS
(3) 21" Lawnboy
(3) String trimmer(on Trimmer Trap racks)
(1) Back pack blower(on Trimmer Trap racks)
(1) Hand held blower(on Trimmer Trap racks)
Misc. hand tools and fuel cans(on custom racks)

This all fits comfortably on a 18' trailer( i know you were looking at a 16') This set up has worked well for me...we can switch out the 48" hydro and 2 lawnboys in order to add a 60" Toro rider. I just recieved a new 20' trailer to put in service in 2007, it will allow me haul 3 Walkers instead of just two and a walk behind. That's my two cents worth.

Daner, Walkers fit a wide variety of properties. Put a midmount with them and you have it made for a lot of properties all season long.
I wonder how many guys here actually have a walker?

I am amazed about how many people are hauling around multiple pieces of equipment for these small size lawns. Is the reason you drive a long distance and you are concerned about the reliability of your equipment?

16 foot trailer makes it tough since walkers are soooo long on a trailer...

but....
1 60" ztr (brand undecided honestly) with catcher.
1 48" Walker with high dump Model "D"
1 36" walker, model "S"
1 John Deere or Honda Commercial 21" mower
1 Echo BP blower, whatever their big boy is.
1 Sthil Handheld blower, BG 85
2 Trimmers- Husqvarna 323L
1 Stick edger- Echo 260
All Trimmer Trap racks for all the small equipment.
3 GOOD 5 gallon gas cans, and one 2.5 gallon for mixed fuel.
Side tool boxes on trailer for all parts and incidentals.
Backsaver lift on gate.

Here's the funny part... Other than the 48" walker, and the fact that my ztr is 50", this is my current set up! And it works awesome for the lawns of that size.

Just get a trailer wide enough and fit the walkers side by side.

Yeah, no problem there! Actually my current trailer is 20', but the stipulations here read that it had to be 16' for whatever reason, lol.

I hate having to move everything off to get one mower though. Sure the most used would be on the back, but with that many mowers they would almost be split equally with useage. I have a side gate on my 20' trailer. it's great, but only works for a walk behind up to 50" wide or so. ZTR's and especially a Walker mower can't take the gate angle normally unless its in just the right position.

For lots that size, I would not need 2 riders. Heck you might be consider just a couple hydro wb mowers with velkies and rule out a rider all together.

It seems a lot of guy want to carry 3 different size mowers? Do you have different size stripes on the same property?

I'm guessing most 1/2 -1 acre properties are fairly open, at least that is the case for me, so how could two guys (I assume most are running 2 man crews) cut the same property if they do not have at least two of the same size mower? If the property is easily divided between front and rear then I could see how it could be done easily but for those properties that are not I don't see how having three differnt size mowers would work out too well. This is what this site is about. Truck set up is one of the most important things for you and your crew(s). Our set up for that type of route is the following.

1. 3 man crew.
2. 60" (66") Emark Z mulch deck
3. 52" 23hp walk behind mulch deck
4. 1 21" push mower
5. 2 edgers
6. 3 trimmers
7. 3 7001 BPB
8. 1 12hp wheeled blower
9. 2 backpack sprayers
10. 2 hedge trimmers
11. Hand tools (rakes, shovels, loppers etc)
12. 20gal bucket and trash bags
13. Pole saw
14. Ladder (not all crews)
15. 7gal water bucket
16. Trimmer line, extra heads and edger blades
17. First aid kit
18. Round-Up (in tip and poures)

We use cab-over trucks both 2 and 4 door. We are phasing out the 2 door trucks in favor of the 4 door models. Most if not all have 18' beds, double drop tool boxes.
On average this investment will cost 65k give or take. Average A/R for this crew a year is 180k-220k give or take.

Two guys mowing one trimming and if one mower gets done he is blowing debri with the BP or the mower he is on. If he gets done trimming then he is blowing why the others are loading up and collecting.:waving:

Dude, ya'll needa trim a LOT faster around there...
Around here, it seems like the big guys that I have watched mow, have one guy trimming, and 2 running ZTRs. Then one ZTR guy edges, the other blows off the walkways and driveway, and then they are loaded up and on the road in about 12 minutes. Very efficient!
