i too wear shorts. you do have to grin and bare it when line trimming, but if you trim right you wont get cut up too bad.

I wear shorts at all times even in the early spring and late fall. I dont care if a pinecone or small rock gets chucked at my legs. My legs are always green by the end of the day but Im not to worried about it. Wear shorts.

I used to wear shorts all the time too, until 2 yeasr ago I hit a ground nest of bees while trimming.I got stung 25 times in the legs alone. The first few stings I didnt think anything of ,just thought i was getting hit with debris from trimming.I now wear pants when I trim,no exceptions.I pull them over my shorts, then drop them off when im done triimng.

I wear shorts and take the pain. My wife wears trimmer chapps. She gets about two seasons out of them.

Funny you should ask, I just got back from the Caesar Creek Flea Market in SW Ohio.
Cintas, the uniform rental people are just south of there on I71.
I got 6 lightly used Cintas open weave 50% cotton/Polyester pullover shirts for $10. Sure they say stuff like "price chopper" and "DANA" on 'em, but I just ruin clothes with stains.
Another booth had new twill uinform shorts for $6 a pair.
I got two pair of Kaki colored shorts.
I'll look presentable for a month or so for $22.
I've worn shorts since April. I've never worn leg protection.
Mowing in 'Bama I'd think it's about time to shed some clothes!

Shorts almost year round here. No protection.
I know this is probably against the rules...but so is heatstroke!

80% of the time, I feel nothing. Not because I'm a tough guy (I am of course), but because I'm careful and try to watch what I'm doing.
20% of the time I just try to grin and bear it. I've messed up and drawn a little blood a couple of times but nothing too bad.
I always try to stay out of the debris stream, but I still suffer from Green Shin Syndrome!

BTW, because of the geography here, I dont see many rocks.
A good sandblasting from time to time keeps the rust off.
People pay big bucks for less efficient "exfoliating"!

I've thought of those pants with the zipper legs that come on and off as an option. I bet a larger pair of pants to go over your shorts while trimming would be quicker and easier...less zippers anyway!

my $.02, hope it helps.

I always wear long pants. Too much trimming for shorts and it takes too much time to be slipping in and out of leg protection all day.

I wear pants, jeans actually. They're a bit to hot and I'm trying to find a good set of pants that will breathe a little more. I heard that Dickes are nice. Might get a pair of those.

I bought these cool pants that have a zipper a little bit above the knee so you can take off the bottom part of the pants and make them into shorts.

We always wear pants as do all our guys when dealing with trimmers. I think it gives a more professional image and is much much safer. If you happen to hit a sharp object in the grass that you cant see and it hits your leg you could be in for a serious injury. We had a guy trim right over glass before luckily it didn't hit him but it was completely covered in the grass and not visible until it was trimmed over. There are always many factors that should play into this not to mention any OSHA standards and other technicalities.

We permit shorts when applying mulch, and other misc. landscape jobs but never trimming and mowing.

I tried pants!
I agree it may look more professional, but it's just too ^*(& HOT!!!
I sweat like a pig as it is!
However, I agree with the safety issue!

I definately need something quick drying. Maybe something from the amphi collection@

Except for the price tag of course!

Come on guys be men, Im only 13 and I always wear shorts. A few times I have got hit with a rock or stick. Thats it. Save your money for beer and dont buy any shin pads or extra pants, etc.

It only hurts for a while!:D

Actually I have been known to throw on a sweat shirt or light jacket and shorts in the spring and fall. I can't stand pants.

When my knees hurt from the cold then its time for pants.

I'd wear shorts, but my trimmer throws crap everywhere! I get grass from my feet up to my waist or so. I tried trimming with shorts but I just don't like it. Besides, I'm always working on the Groundsmater everytime I go to mow so I need pants to keep the grease off me! :D

i usually wear shorts and do like John, pull the long pants over my shorts and take them off when im done trimming. Now i hardly ever have to trim because my partner starts that while i start cuttin so i get lucky and dont have to keep changing my pants :)

Dear Walkermow, in Tallahassee it is too hot to consider pants during normal lawn care. If I am doing a dried out lake or a storm water area I will wear some light cotton pants for the day and suffer the heat. Snakes are too plentiful in jobs like that. Pants offer a small added extra layer of protection from them. Even with shorts I'm goning through minimum 2 gallons of water a day.

Hope this helps,
Sheppard

Shorts? Never heard of the word. Way too hot and sticky here in Maryland now. I'm just like most here, grin and bear it.

I wear short even in the winter months. However, my poor legs are knicked from top to bottom from the old trimmer. I have more bug bites on my legs than you can shake a stick at. I just ordered some poplin full length pants from WearGuard and cannot wait until they get here. No more shorts!!! Pass the calamine and the Benadryl and please make it snappy.
