Have any of you ever changed the engine out on a 1989 Snapper Hi- vac self propelled mower. The reason we ask is because we have 2 of these and love them very well made but they are just so slow with the 3.5hp Briggs & scap iron and where wondering if we could replace very easily with 5-6 hp engine. All replies appreciated.

After you have "dismounted" the 3.5 from the deck--measure your mounting holes on the deck and compare it with the mounting holes you're fixing to buy

Thanks, but what we where wondering is will the drive train and other parts hold up with the bigger engine.

It will probably depend on the diameter of your belt pully

also may make a difference if the crankshaft diameter is different ---- I believe(don't quote me on it) that the 3.5 will have a 7/8" shaft and somewhere up the line toward the 6hp range---the shaft diameter changes to a 1"----so obviously if that is so ---- there will have to be a change in the pully/clutch drives engaging the transmission.
