I was wondering how everybody else's lawn looks compared to our customers lawns. Is it like the mechanic who works on everybody else's cars, but has no time for his?? Oh well I was just wondering anyway. I would rate mine from 1 - 10 at a 6.

my lawn, i can say good things and bad. i am usually busy workin on other people's properties, so all we get to do is cut and small stuff. i just ripped out some shrubs that have been here now for about 20 years or so. spent a couple G's on it. but as far as the lawn goes, i have the straighest stripes on my block. and i gotta work at gettin it the greenest and weed free. after that i am set. back yard dont ask. that is on its own cause of the dog

I'd give mine a 4.5; pretty sad looking, the rainbird underground is awol, waiting on parts, pulled the weeds out this evening. Too busy mowing to keep track of mine.

I have hired the second best company in our area to maintain our property. Just like Alan we cannot afford ourselves. :D

We have also hired the best pruner/shearer out there to keep the ornamental beds groomed every six weeks for a pristine look. ;)

Our girls handle all installations of the annuals, and like to "*pop*" the heads to keep them blooming.:blob1:

I would give mine an L for Little. :)
We do like it though and I mow it twice a week. I installed an automatic underground irrigation system about 6 years ago and we spend a lot of time out on the back deck after work under the old shade tree. Great place to unwind after working all day. As you can see our lawn is small and since I hate stripes, I don't put any in my lawn. :D

Eric,

Is your back yard easy to cut with the Chopper?

Eric,
I think you really need to learn how to stripe with grass shears! LOL.

How do you get your chopper to your shed for winter storage?

Serious note: What type of stepping stone are you useing for your walkway?

Just curious Kris

Rick and Kris, Those are 17" stepping stones from Menards. I don't put the Choppers in the shed or even on the lawn. I can only get the 21" on this lawn. This is a 1 minute lawn with the 21", the size you like to mow after mowing all day. :)

;) When we moved into our home, it was a 2 on a scale of 1-10. Now I would give it a 4.5, but I am content with working on it when I get the time. I want to do all the work myself and the wife knows that unless she pays me the money that I can make from my customers, she will have to be patient.

When we moved in to our home, the back yard was simply awful. The yard was all bumpy and uneven. One rotted mullberry tree, one dying plum tree, and an ugly lilac bush.

Matt took everything out. Brought in dirt. Leveled out the yard. Planted grass. Built a small wall. Made me a few flower beds. One with wild flowers, and the other one with petunias. I just love petunias. Brought in some stone. Added some bushes and shrubs. Made me a garden and lined the garden with marigolds.

The yard looks 99% better. Matt won't let me cut the yard though. I can do whatever I want in the yard, but Matt considers the grass his personal grass that no one should walk on. ;) But I just wish it would get cut more frequently. Sometimes it goes 10 days, and with all the rain, and any watering we do, it grows just so darn fast.

Oh man, I would rate mine a -5. I rent and we are way off the road, The soil is 90% sand so you can imagine:eek: .

If it were day time I would take a picture.

My wife is always saying "WHY DONT YOU MOW THE LAWN":D

It doesn't grow much and is hard on my blades, It only has been mowed 3x's this year so far.

I live among a bunch of retired people who seem like they cut theirs every 2-3 days. I'm doing good to get to it once a week. I don't always trim the back and the sides but the front looks good (when it is cut).

In the summer, 9. When the school season starts, 7. The reason for that being is the fact that I have a ton of time to do anything all day while I'm at home, that is on the days I'm not cutting of course. I stripe my lawn up nice and we now have NO weeds in it! YAY! Just a field of green, not a bunch of dandelions all over. I sometimes trim it, every other week works good. Since I don't get paid, it ain't gonna be picture perfect!

Don't ever aerate and fertilize a bahai yard! Looks darn good when it's cut. Takes me a while to weed-eat the ditch in frt by the road. My 72 can get it mowed in 35 minutes and the rest of the trimming takes another 40.

Where in the world am I gonna find a spare 2 hrs?

I'm going to contact somebody else and see if they can help out. Here he is:alien: I have heard they have them thar lazer cuttin' machines.

Mine is around a 9. I mow it twice a week, trim and edge. I do my best to keep it looking the best I can. I live in a neighborhood where everyone knows what everyone is doing. I'm just getting my lawncare business off the ground and "IMAGE" means alot in my area. To many scrubs doing the MOW & GO route.People like to see TIME spent on their properties, plus I woudn't feel right caring for someones lawn and then they ride by my house and see 10" tall grass. Just the way I feel!

We moved in to this home a year ago. It was in pretty poor shape then and is still the same. I have a great stand of crab grass though. I am in the process of re-landscaping and this fall I hope to work on the yard. My wife threatens to hire a lawncare company to mow because I never have time. I would give it a 4 - 5.

When we bought our house 4 years ago, it was at least a -5. Solid sandburs and blow sand. It had a giant cactus in the middle of the back yard, tin flowerbed edging buried thoughout the entire yard. A rock garden which was scattered from one end to the other along with broken antique bottles. The shrubs and bushes in the back yard had never been trimmed so they were about 18 feet tall (seriously).
Now, I would say that it is a 9. No sandburs, no bare spots and the thickest greenest bermuda around. I am still mad at myself for not taking any pictures of the place when we bought it.

I would rate my lawn as a "4". Matter of fact, my wife was saying that she is tired of me putting our lawn last. The nerve of her!

Our slogan is,"We cut yours like it's ours!" I have 3 stripe patterns on it right now. We are going to put a sign in the yard that says "We cut yours like this!" I give my yard a 9. Although I think a 9 in Tennessee is about a 5 in Chicago, right Eric!:D

5 on a 1-10 scale, but my neighbor does most of the work

A solid "1". It's the worst turf I do. Thick crabgrass, dips all through it, weeds grow like crazy. If it didn't require a major overhaul, I'd keep it fertilized, watered, and cut, but since it's a landscapers nightmare, I just don't have time to do the killing, tearing, tilling, leveling, planting, etc. it would take to get it into shape. I mow it weekly/bi-weekly as necessary and that's it.

To my credit, anyone who ever saw the yard before the wife and I bought the place tells me it looks the best it ever has. It's a complete fixer-upper, just like the house, and we'll get around to it eventually. ;)

A 0.5. It's just a mess.

I'm planning on spraying Lawn Weed-B-Gon after the next mowing this week. I'm afraid to do it though, because I'm afraid I won't have any grass left - the lawn is probably made up of 85% weeds alone! :(

So, I'm not sure what to do.

The front isn't that bad, but the back, it's a wreck.

Any advice? :o

Mine is a 4 only because the neighbors bent grass invaded. Of course it liked to be mowed short but thr kentuk/rye likes long. I split the dif at 1 3/4" water heavy with lots of fert but I am not pleased.:(

I store all my equipment (currently) at my house. My yard rates a ten. Keep it at 3 inches, sharp edges on the flower beds and no stray branches are alowed in the yard. I live on a corner lot of one of the better neighborhoods- don't have any excuses. Also some of my customers are in my neighborhood.

Built house about 4 years ago, at a nieghboorhood gathering hosted by people next door, someone told me " I thought you ran a lawncare company?" I suppose it was a big fat "0". Now the are around house is great! Champion 3+3 fescue from Mengelsdorf. probably a 8.
