Ok, I am once again going to purchase another ztr. I have a choice between the 25hp Kaw. or the Kohler. Which one would you go with? This will be on a 61" Great Dane Chariot.

I prefer the Kohler over the Kawasaki. My dealers Kohler rep. has
gone the extra mile for me in the past. ED

If your a gambler or have masochistic tendencies, I'd say go with the Kohler.

KAWASAKI vs. kohler...for the same horsepower? now...again..., what was your question?

don,t forget as seen in an other post, kawasaki makes all kinds of motorcycles and hand held eqiup.kohler makes toilets and plumbing fixtures,

I think the toilet maker makes a better toilet than engine :)
I refuse to buy a kohler on anything.

Dave dont forget BOAT anchors aka. the Kohler 25HP motor.
I'd never buy a 25 again.
I own a Kohler 26EFI and LOVE it.

Yes, This would be either a 25hp Kawasaki or a 25hp Kohler. I have 2) 25hp Kohlers already but have heard alot of people say the 23 Kawasaki will outperform the 25hp Kohler. So, I wanted to know what any of you that may have had the 25hp Kawasaki had to say about the performace vs. the 25hp Kohler. I have a couple of days to decide so any input is appreciated.

This is a no-brainer,get the kawi.The kohler 25 is a weak engine,both powerwise,and durability too.

I have not had either engine your talking about, but lakegastonla
not all Kohlers are bad. My 22 hp Kohler just turned 3,500 hours today on my old Chopper and it still is being used every day we mow. Bill Parish (Fine Lines Lawn) has a 22 Kohler with over 3,500 hours also, so that engine and the 23 Kohler are both great engines.
I have had 3 Kohlers and had good luck with all 3, but I have heard a lot of bad things about the 25 Kohler. Some that have the 25 Kohler are having good luck with them. My last Chopper I got, I wanted more HP, so I went with Yanmar. I think the next one will be a Honda, since I've heard great things about them.
I have 1 Kawasaki engine, but it's just a 5.5 hp on a 21" JD w/b. The engine itself has been great, but the parts are expensive. $190 cash and carry for a starter for it. It has gone out twice. :(

lawndog--thanks for clairifying the question. I have owned neither but I have monitored the forum here for a while. I may be jaded but I would never buy the 25 kohler under any circumstances (that I can think of at the moment). that defaults to the KAW. and my kaw 14 has been a great performer.
good luck on your decision!

I have kohlers, kawis, hondas and briggs. I will agree that the kawis have a little more power, but dealing with parts and factory support, I will use kohlers from now one. Everytime a kawi problem occurs the mower is down for way to long. Kohlers are generally back up in less than a day. My smaller hondas have been great, but the larger ones have had some problems. Nothing serious, but parts for the bigger motors are harder to get in my area. Nobody runs them, so no demand for stocking parts.
