Went out yesterday on a "leaking valve" situation on a high school baseball field. When we got there we immediately noticed a stream of bubbles and sand coming up to the surface on the outlet side of the valve box. Partner said, "How can that be unless the valve is on?" Of course I knew that there was a continuing line that went to the QCV behind the pitcher's mound and that do-gooders had tapped into this line in order to install a QCV inside the dugout next to the valve for drinking purposes.

Dug up past the valve and found both a tee and a Slip Fix leaking. The 1-1/2" line was at an angle which put too much stress on the whole thing.

Picture #2: Tee leak.

Picture #3: Shows that the line wasn't inserted all the way into the tee when they cut it in with the Slip Fix.

Since there's now a domestically fed drinking fountain just 5' away and that the QCV had been illegally installed for drinking purposes in the first place we replaced the line taking the stress off of it and left the QCV high and dry.
