My company operates in Orange, Seminole. and Lake County. We are also starting to expand into Volusia snd Osceola County. Our current focus is on government maintenance, but we are slowly moving into Estate homes and HOA. We enjoy having customers that can afford to keep their properties looking prestine at all times so we might eventually get out of government work. Anyone want to get together to discuss the local industry? I think have a meeting every once and a while would be good for all of us. There is definately enough business around Central Florida for all of us!

Apopka Florida mainly do not like to drive to far. Sweet Water Oaks and some other areas around and near where I live. I use to go up too Lake Mary and Heathrow , Maitland, Winter Park, but droped them because i make more mowing near my house both in time and fuel cost.:usflag:

We have a shop in Orlando and Windermere. We mainly do Full Maintenance. We have routes in Lake Mary/Longwood, Avalon Park/Cypress Springs, Maitland, Winterpark, Baldwin Park, Windermere, Dr. Phillips, Lake Nona and Oviedo. We have a pretty good ballance of Residential and Commercial. We have 6 apartment complexes (Two of which are nothing to brag about, just dust bowls. Two hotels. 7 HOA's. A couple larger commercials, several smaller commercials. and a bunch of residential. Mostly full service. I run the business under Picture Perfect Landscaping. However, the West orlando route is running under DBA "Image Landscaping". Lake Nona is running under DBA "Southern Oasis Landscaping." We don no spraying, with the exception for Roundup. We usually refer customers to Middleton for spraying.

Just get out there and market. Offer referral incentives to customers. Door hangers have always worked pretty well for me. Its just a numbers game. The more people you get your name in front of, the more likely it is that you get the business. One thing that has worked for me is to target specific neighborhoods. Do a door hanger drop and follow it up with another two weeks later. Look for properties that are in need of service and approach the homeowners. You really just need to get out there and hump it. Its just a numbers game. The important thing is that you keep quality up so you don't lose them once you have got them.

used to be. I did the south orlando, Kissimmee thing. South chase, Whisper lakes, hunters woods. South of the Bee Line to 192. Had a shop across from gator land on OBT
I found that placing adds in HOA newsletters (theres enough of them) helped get business, plus the ads are much cheaper than going door to door with flyers and door hangers.

I'm in Indian River and Southern Brevard County. We're relatively new with about 45 residential and 5 commercials. We've been trying to replace some aging equipment that came with the biz when we bought it last year.

Welcome to the area... Just don't screw yourself and the rest of us by coming in and lowballing like alot of rookies do to get customers. It hurts the industry and you will burn yourself out... :)

Well give me some advice then on price. How do you charge by square foot or est. time? I see you are in Orlando and I do not have any intentions of going out of Oviedo area so I should not screw you. How many accounts due you have currently and how long have been in business in the area.
Here is the scoop on me, I just bought the Hustler and Stihl sticks with cash so I do not have interest payments etc, so it allows me a low overhead but I do not want to bring the rate down for the area, but I want to insure that I am able to get enough accounts to make a comfortable living too.
I have thought of low balling but I know in the long run that more than likely will only make me and you work harder for the money.

You have no over head this year. But when you start to put some hours on your stuff,an hoa tells you that you need a mill in liability to be on site,or just have to replace 4 truck tires, you'll soon see how low balling dont make sence.Besides the way I see it is that I dont want to make less than you so way would I work cheaper. It really dont matter how close any one lives to you,low balling hurts the industry because if a clients use to paying 20 a cut and I need 30 it becomes real hard to get it.Even though I will out perform any of you guys that are cutting 2/3's what I would charge. In Florida you make money off production. Some of use have it together and some of us will shut down.So whens central florida scapers going to get together and and have a few drinks and maybe learn something?

I here you, I got my insurance bill today. My wife who works in the insurance field as a underwriter figured the yearly cost for 100/100 insurance would be $350 a year. Well that is true for the IL and MO policies that she would wright but the FL policy is $600. Got to love FL it is always just a little bit more expensive than the Midwest no matter what the item is.
But again to pricing how do you figure your prices, do you charge by the sq foot down here or by the time you think it will take you to do the yard? If you charge by the SQ foot what is the going rate down here so I am not too low. If you charge by the time what is goal rate per hour of work?
Help me out, I want to be fair and not pull the industry standards down but I need some honest feedback here. I want to make a honest living too, but I do not want to work harder than I need to, to make that honest living.
