What type of trim mowers are on your trailer? Anyone use a self propelled for trimming?

My favorite is the one sitting in the shop. :D
I have a honda commercial that I got new in the early 80's. I hardly ever carry it anymore, but it still cranks on the 1st pull. No telling how many hours on that thing. But it has A LOT!!!!

My favorite is the toro proline. The suzuki engine runs forever and they are very reliable and durable. Oh they are fast too. :)

my favorite would have to be the honda commercial as well. however i have found that a lot of trim work can be done with a good hydro 48" walk behind, or some stuff with a walker. other stuff goes to the trimmer. but for what the walk behind cant reach i think that the honda cant be beat.

I like 52" Toro walkbehinds. With a 14" deck offset to the left they work great and are 3x as fast as a 21".

Stone,
There are times when your 52" toro won't fit. Ever think of that buddy?
not being cute here vandora but my lazer is the best trim mower ive owned. i can trim shrubs etc better an safer than with a trimmer.its 52 inch.

Don't really consider it a trim mower since we can cut many small properties faster & better with a Lawnboy commercial than we can with our WB's. But nothing beats an LB for its light weight, power, & side discharge capabilities.

Don't laugh, but I have one of those older 2 cycle 18" lawnboy's.
The thing weighs like 25 lbs and i can use it on the steepest slopes. I have a 21" self-prop. snapper with a tecumseh engine
that is now about worthless. The engine rattled itself apart last
fall. Needs a Briggs I guess.

Im with Stone on this one, i dont much like the toro we have but i do love the fact that the offset deck is unstoppable!!! I cant think of anything better for trimming its excellent. This is a great time saver and has alot of possiblities for trim usage!!

I use a 20" mtd mulch mower, powered by a 5 hp kawi. or a Honda 4 hp one of my clients gave me.

Honda 21" with the hydrostatic transmission. Heavy but will last you forever if you take care of it. We do have a couple of the 2-cycle Lawnboys that are about 23 years old that we use for some jobs. Those things don't weigh anything and still cut like new.

If you got rid of the one lung engine that machine has and installed a KOHLER Magnum 18.5 h.p. that is for sale at turfquip you would have a another opinion.
To really shine that machine needs a big twin engine. With that
18.5 you will have a machine you can run doubles on and it will be
such a big improvement you will think it is another machine.
The HP diff. may not be that much but the diff. in torque is like from 20 ft lbs vs 30+ ft lbs.
You will have to buy a electric start wiring harness (about $50)
battery tray from toro and rob a battery hold down, starter relay,
ign. switch, primary wiring etc. from an junk garden tractor.
dont use a trim mower just a sthil weed eater and 61' chariot when i first started i would use a 21' mower and go around every thing didnt take long to figure that was wasting time .

Here's another vote for a weedeater... I haven't touched a 21" since the first year I started... and it was for cutting the lawns.

Weedeater, and yes I do use a 22 inch crapsman push mower for my grandmas yard.I've had this thing for 4 years not one bit of trouble, just sharpen blade and change oil.Grandmas yard is only a five min mow (no kidding), can't justify spending money on a top notch 21 or 22 push mower.;)

My "TRIM" mowers are all I use
Lawns round these parts can be EXTREMELY small.
All these new cookie cutter houses worth over 200k with a 8'x10'
lawn just keeps me laughing all the way to the bank.
Honda commercials with a zillion hours on them

I agree with turf council small lawns are where the money is .
Most of the time I use a 18" etesia pse and leave the 21" on the trailer .The etesia can't be beaten costs a lot of money £450 UK.

now i heard it all- a 21" that is too big and left on the truck. geez.
a1- i dont love lb's cause either
1. the push version, i hate to push
2. self prop. version, i hate replacing cables, wheels, etc.
but they do cut nice.
we use toros prolines.

in my area if I needed to carry a trim mower I would think that something was wrong with the way I was doing business.
the ole LESCO 48 and the HOMELITE straight shaft trimmer gets them all.
I could see the utility of having a bagger to cut traffic islands and the like but that's not the way I cut them now.
if I was forced to use a mower less than the lesco 48, I have a 20 year old YAZOO S-24 with the REAL CAST IRON 5 HP briggs engine. there's no doubt that that thing is 5 HP!
