View Full Version : Gradeing job i did over the summer

Nothing fancy, i wish i had taken before pics. I had 3 ten wheel dumps hauling for a week strait to get the grade down. The back yard was just a big gravel pile. I did everythng with the 315 ex then spread out the loam with the the D3. The worst part was, the job was for family, every day they wanted an area cut down or raised back up. As you will see in the pics they ar big rock lovers, there are G Darn rocks everywhere. My aunt positioned each rock exactly the way she wanted them.

How hard to use is that D3? How much time does it take to get where you grade well with it? BTW job looks great. I was kind of hoping to see dirt! I almost like how a grade looks after the harley rake more than I do w/ the grass on top of it.

Well before I started my landscaping company i worked for a local site contractor for 6 years. I did all the finish dozer work. I dozed out the yard and had it sprayed the day after, never needed to rake it out.. D3 is an awsome machine. If you have equipment experience, id say after a day on it you could have it good to rake out. The biggest thing is to keep the blade loaded with material, if not you will get the ripple effect. The 3 is great for screaned loam. It lacks the weight to push and grade rocky material (efficiently) that is. If you had a large yard too do, i would not hesitate to get a dozer in there for a day, you could always tune it up with a skid after. When it's possible i like to have all my material spot dumped the day before.. So much easier to just doze it out then have to deal with waiting for trucks, and hold there hand to get the loads where ya want them..Sorry it's so long i got on a roll .

Eventually the homeowner wants to put a large bed around the rock in the middle.

Looks awesome! To many single rocks in the second pic. but thats just my opinion. How about a mulched bed around those small trees in the lawn, they look a little stuck in there.

Hey I agree, the homeowner wanted to do the mulching and put in the beds.. I'll keep you guy posted this summer if it ever actually happens.
