Same here, daily for us too, We have enough sets blades in our shop for each machine to where we can just throw another set on and switch them out, then the dull ones are sharpened and put back up with the other sets. Saves time. This is done in the morning when all the mowers and equipment are checked over before we start the day. It doesnt take long when you get a system going. Poor blades make your mower consume more fuel, they are less efficent, besides the poor quality of cut. It makes the motor work harder and leaves a taring cut on the grass. Think of it like shaving with a dull razor, doesnt work to well, hell it hurts sometimes cause instead of cutting it rips. Same way the mowerblades work.

I do it weekly, but I am only cutting about 1.5 days/wk. If you don't do it often, it is bad for the grass as it just tears it vs. cutting it.

We cut some properties with field grass this stuff is like cutting wire it will push your mowers hard,it would give a spyderco a workout.

In the spring I find myself shaprning twice a week, and in the summer I sharpen once a week.
I use a bench grinder.
If you cut with dull blades, you will see it next week when all the tips of the grass are brown from being torn not cut

get a bench grinder.....I mow 40-50 accounts a week and sharpen blades every other day. Be careful how you sharpen though or you will go through blades like a motha

This guy has TWO mowers and has NEVER sharpened a blade before? WOW, your customers must love that bush hogged look! Not to mention that the Florida sand will eat the sails off, and dull the blades pretty dang fast.

Depends on the machine
Push mowers, WB's, and ZTR's
Have 3 sets for every machine. We switch them out and on third day they are all sharpened

Toro 223, and Toro 325
Have 2 sets for those. Again switched out and sharpened on the third day.

Toro 580-D
Once a week. It's more or less are only out at about 3 accounts each week and always fine rocks and crap in the lawn. It takes about 2 hours to sharpen its 11 blades on the 3 decks. But it save time and money cause it does the job that 4 72in mowers do

JD 2210 w/ vac system
Every morning when vac'ing. Other than that it's a back up during the summer once a week depending on use.

Another thing about dull blades ripping the grass instead of cutting, torn and ripped grass blades are more susceptable for disease infection as the pathogens have easier access to plant tissues. I sharpen mine with a 4 1/2 inch handheld grinder, doesn't do the best job but beats running them to the shop or spending hundreds on a sharpening tool. Mine are sharpened about every 15-20 hours but probably needs done more often.

It seems like I am sharpening all the dang time. I use a bench grinder. I will get a dedicated blade sharpener one day. You can't beat one of those machines. A friend of mine owns a tool rental shop.....his blades are nearly razor sharp and he uses a blade sharpener. HHmmmm......I wonder if he'll let me use it????
