For a website, or for an assumed business name?

For a business name, in our state, there is a state corporation division that can be called, or visited online at a website; with name search function.

It depends on the type organization you are going to set up. A Sole Proprietorship would be local so you typically have to run an ad for a few weeks announcing the intended use of the name. A LLC or Corporation would have to be registered with your state. They will tell you if the name is available. First decide on the organization and it will dictate what you have to do. Contact your local county or town government and they will be able too provide you with the necessary paperwork. Good Luck.
