70 per cubic yard is about what I am getting this year for tripple shredded pine bark. I have seen others say they get 45 - 55 and with expenses and overhead being what they are I just don't see how they can do it for those prices.

Around here I have heard of guys putting it out for $28 per yard and that includes the mulch that they are buying bulk for $14 per yard. I am leaving money on the table. I have been charging $45 per yard. thats about all anyone in our area will pay.

I am new to the industry living in Knoxville, Tn and kind of trying to get some sort of feel to setting my prices. I have been doing mulching part sporadically but looking to make it more steady. just needing some info on how not to cheat myself.

Word of advise - Don't do what I've been doing.

Where do you get yours from? I can't find it below 25 here and thats after my discount. I'm only getting 55/yard forking and wheelin'.

usally i do $65 installed + delivery which is $45 for me, 3yd minimum but this year i am going to try something different. i am going to sell the customer the mulch for $30peryd + delivery at a $5 markup(i get the mulch for $25peryd) and i will be charging them an hourly rate of $45 per hour at an estimated time of 1 to 1 and 1\2yd laid per hour for one person depending on the job. it will be an increase for my customer but i am tired of losing money when im thinking im making so much. plus this will simplify things for the customer on the invoice. i might get rid of the markup but im still leaning towards the money incase i decide to lay the mulch to fast or anything like that lol

i used to lay 8-10 yds per hr with a four man crew including me but im tired of working that hard.

I charge a $55/yard premium which includes delivery and installation.
I.E. - premium dyed mulch is $30 here, plus $55 premium = $85 delivered/installed

I charge $45/yard premium if the mulch has already been delivered.

Last summer did about $25,000 in mulch!

AFTER all delivery costs i pay 20/yd for blended double grind hardwood.

i'd do it for $3850 ... thats with no preperation.. just installing the mulch nice and even and smooth.

so all you guys that are saying $75/yd .. i charge more on smaller amounts, like 5-20cy .. but you guys dont lower it a little as the volume increases? i taper from $65-55 /yd as the volume increases, travel time decreases, delivery costs decrease etc.

It depends on the kind of mulch you are using. In my neck of the woods in Nashville, TN Black Hardwood mulch is $25.13 with my discount. regular brown is like $16.50. As far as installing it per yard, I charge $60 per yard. I can usually turn out a yard of mulch pretty fast depending on how hot it is that particular day...lol :blob2:

Last year, I was getting $65-$85 per yard installed depending on the type. My mulch distributor is having the annual open house/spring conference this Friday and then I'll see what this years price will be.
