I wish. I have been looking at there ztr's and they seem to be a really well built machine. The tying that sets them apart to me is the independent suspension. That would be great for my back. I also like the fact that each hydro reservoir has a cooling fan mounted on top.

Speak up for small business!

Small Business Day at the Capitol

Wednesday, April 21, 2010
9 a.m. - Noon

hosted by

NFIB
The Voice of Small Business

LOUISIANA
ECONOMIC
DEVELOPMENT

and sponsored by

Blue Cross BlueShield
of Louisiana

Louisiana State Museum
660 N. Fourth St.
Baton Rouge, La.

Why YOU Should Attend Small Business Day at the Capitol:

Now is the time to speak out against tax-and-spend policies. Small businesses must do everything they can to hold on to their pocketbooks. Trial attorneys are coming out in full force this legislative session and want to make it easier for you to be sued. We must show the Legislature that small business is the bedrock of Louisiana 's economy, and we're watching everything they do!

Speakers will include

Gov. Bobby Jindal
State Treasurer John Neely Kennedy
Dept. of Revenue Secretary Cynthia Bridges
Dept. of Health & Hospitals Secretary Alan Levine

Hey guys. Just curious. I often hear that the winter months are very tough for quite a few. Wondering how many have monthly commitments with their clientele. This way your income stays pretty steady throughout the year with the exception of installs, seasonal color changes, etc.

stevenf

There is NO market for residentials so far and I have been doing this for a couple of years. This year I obtained a few higher income homes so I plan to really sell some cleanup/maintenance work to them and see how it goes.
Commercial properties are contracted to be visited every two weeks during the off season and are charged as a cut. Most of the time they dont need to be cut but its still a steady monthly check for atleast one year.

KrayzKajun
09-16-2010, 12:47 AM
i put my residentials on a biweekly come november. i still go out and edge, blow pik up leaves etc... luckily the homebuilder im contarcted too keeps me busy all year w/ new constructions and clean-ups

cstafford
09-17-2010, 12:02 AM
Krazy, even at two weeks come November, your monthly fee should still be the same as if you were cutting in June/July/Aug, etc. Average out the cost over a year and charge one fee per month Ex. $60/cut x 43 annual visits = $2580/year. $2580/12 months = 215.00/month for 12 months. Whether they pay by the cut or by the month they still pay $2580 annually. Your maintenance money in the down season stays the same.

Is this the way you run things? If so, what's your experience with it?

Hotwater, thanks for chiming in. Yes this is the only way we handle our business (maintenance accounts). But keep in mind, you have to do what is best for your business. This process is not new to our industry. Commercial clients have accepted this method for years. It's our residential customers that need to be educated. :hammerhead: It is much more efficient when managed this way and will free up your time to.....Generate more business.

Learn this lesson from me. The first time I tried to explain this to a potential customer, he/she looked at me as if I was speaking Greek. Why??? Because I was not fluent in my approach and delivery. If uncomfortable at first, practice this on paper with a few scenarios (42 cuts annually, 39 cuts annually, $50/cut, $40 cut, etc). Most customers will understand. Just remember that you will have to be able to live on a monthly income as opposed to weekly. No more under the doormat, left in the mailbox or plant container for you.

Invoice (remember, Quickbooks or some other automated invoice generating system is your friend) at the beginning of the month in which service is to be provided. (Sept 1 for service in Sept). No money by your given due date, no further service until then. For us, it is 10 business days. If past one week, 15-20% more for the added time that it will take you to "catch the grass up". Of course this is adaptable as needed.

Again, do what is right for your business. But for us, no two week accounts. We need to eat every week, not every two weeks. Not being a smart ass, just stating facts.

Hope this helps you.

The weather has been crazy. This next cool front rolling in will do us in!
Fall clean-ups haven't gone so well for me, I've had a lowballer following me around this fall. I priced a terrible clean up for over $600, this guy did it for two. I know because the woman called me back and told me who he was, the price he charged, and that it took him three days with some help. I was happy I missed that one once she called telling all his business.

Hey Kleankutts,

If you are who I think you are, don't forget about my Walker for sale. To let everyone know I have a 2003 48" GHS 25hp liquid cooled for sale for $4,000. It has almost 2300hrs on it with a new motor at 1942hrs. So in essence, less that 400hrs on new motor. I've got a 2008 and 2010 GHS and don't need the older one any more. If anyone is interested, call me at 504 462-5853.

Can anyone recommend products to control mosquitoes? My parish does not spray and the back yard has become a buffet for the mosquito army. I have a ton of Talstar which can be used to kill them, but all I have is a Solo manual sprayer....will that work? Does anyone have a motorized sprayer they want to part with?

Any help would be appreciated.

Also, I have a 2006 Exmark with a 56" deck for sale. It has a 27hp Kohler, a mulch kit, and a suspension seat. It has about 250 hours on it and has warranty until August 2008.

What's up folks. Looking to purchase a used heavy duty :weightlifter: utility trailer (16', 18' or 20') for hauling various goods (trees, mulch, soil, plants, etc). Would prefer one with solid sides and a ramp gate. Big Tex has one but I don't want to part with $3500 unless I have to. I'm in New Orleans but will travel a reasonable distance to fetch one. Let me know what's out there.
