If i learned one thing from here, it was to not make your flyers and advertisements on microsoft word...so what do you guys think?

Your opening question makes no sense. Commercial rates for a residential lawn? What does that mean?

One thing I really cant stand is the T's lawn care font. Looks like it was written with a pen by a 5th grader. IMO a better font would be good, although i'm not really thrilled about the name either. Also the ask for Tyler bit is a little sketchy, if thats your family number, you should get a cell phone.

I have to agree. It looks like he found someone elses flyer and just wrote his name on it. Try a different font. Just keep trying different ones.

I wouldnt personaly advertise that you are cheeper then your compeditors like your opening line unless that is the kind of business you want to run. I tell most of my customers that i am not the cheapest in town, but they still hire me because of the quality of work i provide. Its all about peoples perception of your company. I personaly dont want to cut a persons yard that just wants the cheepest guy around. Just my 2 cents you can run your business as you wish

If they don't ask for Tyler, his mom will give the job to his brother who has much better flyers.

now now, everyone has to start some where. I remember my flyers when I was 13, they were much different then they are today lol. Just remember, we are giving you feedback to improve, not to belittle. Good luck.

What are commercial rates? Do you even know? Are you thinking that residential lawns are cheaper than commercial properties? In our experience, we have rarely won commercial bids, as we are never the cheapest. A lot of commercials look for the lowest price.

So nix that line in your flier, your customers won't know what you are talking about anyhow.
If you want, you can put "Call Tyler (insert last name), then your phone number. Ask for Tyler sounds horrible.

Why pay commercial rates for a residential lawn

Like Jodi said about commercial, they go low.

So what you may not know your saying is "Why pay cheap prices for a residential lawn"

I've always felt like a wh0re while working for commercial accounts. Condo's are the worst from my experience. It's all about how low can you go without loosing your shirt. Profits are low.

I would come up with something else. Not what you wanted to here in all these post but most of use have experience in advertising. We know what works well and what gets minimum results.

You dont want to find yourself working for a bunch of pita, slow pay, complaining ****** bags. Those are usually the ones who prey on the lawn boy and walk all over him until they get the price they want and it will drive you into the ground with no cash in your pocket.

It's a mistake to emphasize price, especially so prominently like that.

Why does price have to be the most important thing? For a lot of home owners, it is not the most important thing. And it is not good for you to assume that it is.

I was gonna say the same thing about the commercial rates. Most people will have no clue what you are talking about with that statement. You've got to remember they are not in this business so you need to word it so that it is persuasive to your target market. If your target market is other lco's then go for it. Also I would ditch the call tyler line to it makes you look like youre a neighborhood kid trying to make money to go to the movies. Like others have previously stated we aren't trying to bash you, we are just giving honest opinions. If you do a search on this site there is alot of good info on flyer design.

Sounds like it reeks of lowballing, if you imply lower prices you'll get every cheapskate in the area. Equipment costs are the same, ins is the same, gas is the same,= price should be the same. To quote someone on this site " in order to stay in bussiness you need to know your costs, if you dont know your costs, you can't bid right, if you can't bid right you wont be in bussiness, so you might as well be a Wal Mart greeter"

Well good luck with your business, hope all the info from everyone here helps. It's cool to see a kid want to actually do something productive rather than sit at home and play video games all day.

I been reading these post about flyers, and here the same people say they look the same and I wouldn't hire you, well lets see your ideas and or flyers. So far I have not seen any good advice coming from these people, always just knocking somebody's attemp to gain customers and build there business up. All I can say is to keep trying guys and don't be discourage by some of the post here and any other thread that you have read that are so negitave. Now I know Ill get some crap from some of these people but the way I see it, if you don't like the flyer than give the guy some good ideas on how to improve it. Don't just post (looks like another word format or whatever). Be professional here and remember where you started and what you tried in your day.

I did post my door hanger and I did not get one "same as everyone else" or even "needs some work", because it was well thought out before I put it up for criticism.

Then lets see more of that. So was the door hanger the first attemp or did you have to do trial and error

Then lets see more of that.

It only works if the stuff being reviewed is good to begin with.

So was the door hanger the first attemp or did you have to do trial and error

There were several revisions before I posted it. I did make one more change as a result of the critiques I received. I also posted my logo and business card using the same process.

Yes however it sparks calls, so it works for me. It also saves me the speech of why I can't do it for $20, because my minimum is $35.

This is kinda off topic, but some of these posts got me to thinking.....the one about the brothers, a classmate of mine and his brother are like that, two different businesses under the same roof. My buddy has learned from me about how to do some stuff and the right way, but his brother has a WHOLE other agenda for work, pricing, and it ain't right.
And the commercial pricing deal, there is a college student around here who's flyer reads, I kid you not "Commercial Mowers are for Commercial Lawns. We use only small push mowers on our residential lawns." WTF?:hammerhead:

You are right for wondering WTF. Customers don't care what type of mower you use so long as your not creating a mess.
