Chuck is right. Enjoy being on a team. Maybe you can line up a buddy to help with the yards while you are gone.

Get a life while you still have a chance.

Save
Invest
Squander
Whatever it takes to retire at 30....................that should be your ultimate goal.

I'm almost 30 and there's no hope for me.......................it's too late.

You have 17 years to prepare for retirement.............screw them 2 yards.........................PLAY BALLLLLLLLLLLLLL

Can you do those two lawns on Thursday?

If I were your client and you phoned me up and told me you were going to be out of town on Friday I'd say "Sure kid, come on over and cut it Thursday...and good luck at the tournament!" :D

These other guys are right...enjoy being a young whippersnapper while you can....it don't last forever and you only get one shot at it.

PEACE...and good luck on friday!

If you can't cut them Thurs, get someone else to do it 1 time while you are away. This is a chance to be in the State Tournament--Do It ! The grass growth may be slowed down enough now that they may not mind skiping this week. Have you explained the situation to the customers ? They should understand that you are 13 and such things as this, school, and family vacations will come up that you can not say no to. This is part of hiring a 13 year old to work. I am not saying anything about the quality of work you do or how reliable and professional you are. Shoot....when I had a baby last year I told my customers a month before that if I don't come as scheduled that is the reason and I would be there as soon as I could. My schedule was all over the place for 3 weeks, and all of them understood and nobody complained. Sometimes things in life come up that are more important than work and other people have to be flexible too. I think they understand that you are not a 3 man crew that can operate if a man is sick or on vacation--they most likely like the fact that you are not and that is why they hired you. But that means they may have to skip or rearange sometimes.

I asked an old neighbor of mine to paint my garage 3 weeks ago. I don't care if he does it today, or next week after he gets back from his vacation with his family because I understand he is 13 and this is his summer.

Congratulations ! and good luck in the tournament.

Don't forget your customers are people too. They were 13 once. They understand what's going on. Don't worry too much okie?

When I read this post I knew exactly what I was going to reply. But, after reading everyone's response I think I will just sit over here and keep my mouth shut! Don't think my reply would be too popular.....
That aside good luck in your game.

Avery,
Its good to hear diiferent opinions/perspectives.
Maybe your thinking the business should come first.
Dunno, you didn't say.

Maybe some of his customers think that way too.
Thats why I think he should tell them wassup ASAP.
The good ones will understand (He's 13 for crysakes...).
The other ones, he will have to raise his price on and get someone to do it for him.
I understand he may be gone for up to a week.

It's a sacrifice.
But, for maybe a chance in a lifetime.
Grass will always need to be cut!

PLAY BALL!!!

:blob3:

BTW 13, good luck and you better be ready to get back at it when the tournament is over. Be sure to give a special thanks to your customers that stick by you.

I agree with everyone else in saying, play ball! We understand you are trying to be proffessional in not letting your customers down, but I too believe that they will understand if you cut thursday or even wed. I'll be honest with you, if any one of us older guys had the chance to play in a state tourn. right now, I'd be on the phone with my customers as we speak.
Good Luck in the tournament and remember you have about 4000 Lawnsite members pulling for you. Have fun.

We all need some time to enojoy the good things in life. Your 13 if your customers expect you to cut thier lawn and not attend the states. There is something wrong with them.

I leave a day.5 of work open each week. for the the extra stuff. Last minute customer landscaping requests.
New customer's, tell them I can show up in a day or two to trim/etc and thay are more likely to sign up.
Time for estimates, Paperwork, maintenance, running arround.

And best of all more time to spend with my Daughter (4months old).
All of my customers are parrents and know I am. Thay fully understand and dont care if I'm a day late/early. So many apointments and I'm there for all of them. Customers would be upset if thay knew thay kept me from something much more important. and are more willing to give me thier buisness and pay my price.
