I looked at a job today. Part of the job is a 18 in tall raised patio. The patio will be a rectangle. Were going for a modern look and want it to match the shape of the pool. Any one have any pics of any they did? I am trying to think of some ideas to spruce it up.

What are you thinking, planters? Long steps? Where is the pool going in relation to the house (how close)? Why is it 18" above the rest of the grade?

I wasn't able to talk the homeowner out of a rectangular patio, but I still think it turned out alright. 74774

I am working on a design right now. I'll post it in a couple hours. I am going for a very formal look i'd say. All stright lines with 90 degree corners. No curves at all any where.

oh well, this is curved, but it's about 18" I'd say

What do you guys think about having the stairs go around the entire patio?

I see pics you guys post all the time with raised patios in them, and wonder how you guys are getting away with these and having no railings of any type whatsoever. Around here anything over 8" requires a railing. Alot of times to avoid this we will put in sea or seat walls and steps around majority of the patio.

Are you sure it's 8" in NY??
CAuse homes with sunken family rooms usually have an 8" drop!
Thank god our code isn't THAT EXTREME :)

We have a 28" code here. An exceptable step is 6.5" to 8.25".

At 18 inches above grade, once i do the mounded beds, its only a 12in drop.
