What time are you able to start cuttting in you neck of the woods. we can't get much accomplished before 9:00 am because of the dew. Try to finish are days before 7:00 pm what about you and why.

Your schedule is similar to mine. However, I try not to mow after 6 PM. The dew is starting to form and I hate to bother the customers after just coming home.

Maybe a stupid question, but why does the dew hold you up? We all talk about how good the mowers still cut when it rains, and we mow then. I am a rookie so I might be missing something but what is it? I can understand slopes and so forth may get a little slick but what else?

We leave the house at 8:45 and finish by 5:00. One or two days Matt might work till 8:00 pm depending on if we get backed up due to rain.
The dew doesn't bother us, but we don't start earlier because it isn't fair to get the kids up any earlier than necessary to go to grandmas house.

When i refer to the dew my concern is for the damage caused by cutting wet grass wet grass slows blade tip speed resulting in more tearing of the blades then cutting in addition cutting wet grass does a number on you blades. picture smacking your hand against the water in the sink as hard as you can 100 times a second sooner or later your hand has got to start to sting well blade have got to dull exponetially faster. Finally wet lawns me more slipping more sliding and less throw of your clippings the majority of our accounts are weekly cuts and this means were cutting 2-3-4 inches of heavy thick turf. not to mention how much more fun it is to get those wet clippings of the new drive when one of the boy decides to drive down the 1/4 mile long drive on his way back to the trailer.

I usually have other work I can do in the morning if the grass is wet from dew or rain. I'll cut residential 'till 7pm and commercial 'till dark.

We generally mow residentials after 8:00 A.M. till 5 or 6. We mow commercial whenever, as early as 6:30. We don't mow on Sundays except for my house if necessary and we usually don't mow on Saturdays unless rain has messed up the schedule.

We start at 7:00 am, stay as late as 7:00 pm. Usually work Saturdays till about 3 pm. Sunday, if needed, start at 12 or 1 pm, and gone by 4 pm. We have more than normal rain out here, really keeps the weeds growin'.

I shoot for an 8 am start, finish no later than 5 pm. Lots of reasons why that schedule makes sense for me, but the most important one, I'd say, is that's the schedule I want to work.
It's good to be the boss. ;)

I have a couple of commercial accounts that I get out and start somewhere between 0330 and 0430 one day a week. Otherwise I usually start around 0800 and try to be done by 1700.

I only have two accounts right now.. I'm not sure you would consider them accounts, but I do. :D
1. Here, at home.
2. Uncle's.
I don't start mowing until around 10am because I wouldn't want to wake the neighbors. And, I wouldn't mow any later than 8:30pm. :)
Why? I don't know. ;)

I'm kind of like Keith, start later than most, around 9 or 9:30 on the first job. Usually work till around 6. Often don't take lunch, just like to go full speed throughout the day. Love checking off accounts as they get serviced on my schedule for the day. I am constantly looking at my watch to gauge the time I am taking on each property. It's a daily sprint to the finish for me, all the while doing the best possible job for each customer. I can't imagine being laid back or ever taking a break. I would get bored. I love getting in the "work like crazy" zone through the week so that I can enjoy my weekends off.

we bring the boys in at seven. some of my accounts are in toronto, so the early start helps them beat traffic (if thats possible. if its a local day, often theyre at the first house by 7:20. Never had a customer complain, but have had a couple of neighbors mention its a bit early. we usually are in by 5 PM.
i like the early start to beat the heat in the afternoon. dew not a big problem, not after spring anyway. like bassman says, stopping sucks and kills your energy. i just grab a slice and keep on going.
I have a couple of early days when I start at day break. And I have a couple of late days when I finish a 7:00. Oh well, I like flexibility.:)

Since there is no time clock in my truck I start and finish when I want. It's 12:00 and ain't hit a lick yet! Been working til dark the last few days though and we're almost on schedule now. Worked til 5:00pm yesterday, loaded up and went to the lake, came home at 9:00, watched O' Brother, went to bed............you know.................just takin a break!
Commercials as early as 5:30am
Residentials never before 8:30am
Stop time...............whenever we've had enough
start about 830 sometimes im thru at a rediculous hr.
got to get a lot more buisiness. this is slowly taking place
as my work is tops. i always tried to do a good job. but this z
just really changed the whole situation, from the production and quality cut standpoint

I start anywhere from 4:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m and normally finish between 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Never do residential before 8:00 a.m. or after 5:00 p.m.
