the 32 is a belt i have 48 thats a hydro the 32 i bought first figured it would beat the pant off a 21 which it did but then i got osme big yards where i wantd a hydro48 and so i upgraded and this became my trailer queen i use it in one back yard. So now i am just gonna go back to a 20 if i can sell it. It cuts better then my 48. the 32 just has a ton more cutting balls for some reason

So, you dont really like it?

So, you dont really like it?

I have no complaints with it i just dont need it and i hate mowing all together. So ill keep my 48 which i like alot more and either ill cut with a 21 or i wont cut at all. Its a great mower and for a guy that only runs belt mowers it would be perfect but i came from a company that only ran hydos this thing is half the weight but more clumbsy.

Well guys, i start college tomorrow. Not looking forward to it but will be worth it in the long run i guess. planting around 20k sq ft of gras this weekend and strawed all by hand so i one tired pupp. What is the average price per sq ft that you guys charge for seeding?

kc2006
09-14-2009, 07:09 PM
yea I'm interested to see some prices too. I just figure out the materials needed and time it'll take and price it that way.

I got a job for 2 acres that need seeded/strawed. It's on the county water resevoir's property so EPA doesn't want hydroseed. I'm kinda scared of this job cus epa will be there inspecting.

$.50 cents a SQ ft. But obviously youd have to put the rental of a lager machine in there. and thats with out haul away

id say you might wanna rent a straw blower, just a thought :weightlifter:

kc2006
09-15-2009, 07:14 PM
a real man can spread all that by hand...lol

Yea a blower will be rented. I came up with .028 a sq ft, they want a seed that costs alil more so it was up a hair. I should be able to make a pretty good buck on it, I'll get a really good price on straw and probably a discount on the seed since I'll be buying so much.

Are you guys talking about broadcasting seeding or what? Maybe your talking about broadcasting and running a rake over the lawn... If you slice seed a yard in you really don't need straw saw I'm going to assume your not talking about that?

What's the going rate right now per acre for slice seeding?

At .028ft2 thats less than 3cents a ft2! I hope you just put the decimal in the wrong place. There is no way in heck I would touch that for only $2400.

kc2006
09-16-2009, 06:32 PM
yea i somehow messed that all up. I went way high and figured 5 hours to broadcast 2 acres, then 13.5 man hours using a straw blower, which again I think is way high. Which comes out to about 8 bales of straw an hour, I can do 4 an hour by hand. Plus a fee for rounding up that much material and I'd be making a good amount off the savings from the seed/straw.

Theres no grade work at all, just spread the seed, I have a drag chain that i'll be using an atv to pull and rake in the seed, then blow in the straw and cash the check.

Ditto. Normally, we get 23-25 mows a year from the residentials. This year, we could get 28-30. Depends on November. This year has been the best year. I've been doing this since 95. Climate change. I love it.

We had a Wet Summer up here. The houses up here didn't "brown-out" until late Aug. / Early Sept. Then the last week in Sept..... Until now have been wet, wet, wet. We've been working in the rain, cutting grass and Aerating when it's POURING! All of the leaves are still on the trees. This SUX!
I've had Breakdowns like Crazy. I had to swap out a fuel hose on my truck the other day (no biggie). I had my truck in the shop 2 weeks ago for the Brakes (thought it was the back, but ended up being the front). I didn't wanna wrestle around w/ the Dually wheels, drums, shoes, and other crap for the back brakes so I brought it into the shop. Well, to make a long story short. today I heard a rubbing noise. It ended up being a "Shim" that came loose, from between the Caliper and Pad. It ended up rubbing a nice groove in my new rotor. So I fixed that and went out and cut all day (IN the rain).
Then as I'm dumping the truck I notice Hydraulic fluid spraying out of the "Return Line" from the pump for my Dump. Luckily, I have a Parker Store located about 2 min from my house. So, I had to swap out the line. What a messy job. It looks like the line was rubbing along the top "flange" of the front gas tank. I think it's fixed now.... We'll see.
I hope you guys have been having better luck. I can't seem to catch break. I did; however, see that stellar win by the Browns yesterday! It gives me hope!

Right on man. When it drizzles??? We work. When it rains??? We work. When it pours???? We cut 2 more than "bring it in" and work on equipment. Gore-Tex F.T.W. (...that's "For The Win" to you non-gamers:laugh:) We work until there are "Puddles" then we usually just cut around them.:walking::confused: :nono: Haha. If it's too wet... hey guys i had a questoin about ornimental grass, should i cut it down to the ground this time of the year?

I would wait till it browns out too. Do it in November. I like to do it then or December, but I have some customers that want it to be like that till spring. They won't let me cut it down until then.

but they got the one off last year and still operational. there is little wear on them.. wounldt you just be able to make some type of balancer for it and just weld a little bit on it here and there. that was what they were going to do with it.

Well, I put my back today about 2 hours ago. Had to call a friend over to help me up off the floor. Took a vicadin so the pain is not that bad right now. Ripping up carpet getting the floor ready for a new vinly floor in my Mom's house and this happens. Good news is that I am not putting the vinly down. Really sucks cause I need to get the lazer's bagger unit on there today as well.

Anybody use a cargo carrier on the back of the their truck to put their leaf loader on? I am toying with this idea so it won't have to be lifted up on the tailgate. Any other suggestions, I am open to any right now.

Looks like it might be a pretty wet week if the weather models pan out.

is the impeller damaged or what just some wear wont cause any problems. if it is damaged or out of balance i would just buy a new one. those things spin at such a high rpm you would have to be very accurate with your balancing. if you are a little off the vibration will destroy your engine.

Why dont you get a hitch mounted one or weld a hitch mount to yours. That is how ours is. I put a receiver mount on the back of the dump trailer. Just my 2 cents worth.

if your only going to have 1000 in it with a new impeller , i would stay away there is something wrong with it and they know it. the impeller is 550, i had the same one just a little older. like i said those things are 4500 new and if its only 4 years old i doubt it is only worth less than 25% of new.

its from a very reputable dealer, i mean very reputable! a township owned it and just traded it in on a new $10k one. they have always done the maintenance on it every year.. the hose could prolly be replaced but would still work but other than that its in good condition.

Woah, whoah... Take it easy kid. BUY IT THEN! Everyone here is just trying to give you a lil' Experience, and "Know How." I Personally have no need for a Loader since all of the Municipalities that I work in.... Have "Curb-Side Pick-Up."
I Personally have no clue what it takes to fix one of these machines.... But, Obviously these guys do. If you think that you can use this machine, then turn it over for a profit???? DO IT! If you have the cash "On-Hand"??? DO IT!
Don't talk about how REPUTIBLE the dealer is. If they're gonna fix it when it breaks... DO IT! If not, then it's your problem to fix. Otherwise Keep the "Capital" On-Hand. You'll be better off.

JAX76CJ
10-26-2009, 08:40 PM
Just remember... The Dealer isn't in this Business to lose $$$.... No matter how REPUTIBLE! Sometimes it's better for them to "Cut-Their-Loss" On a "Trade-In" from a Township, Make the Sale.... Then sell the "Trade-In" to an unsuspecting buyer, just because they are the "Only-Game-In-Town."

We've just been Motorin' on thru. The leaves are really starting to come down. All Except for the Accounts whithin a Mile of the Lake. They're Just starting to turn. Other than that, we're just moving along, slowly but surely. Accounts that typically take 20 Min.... Are now taking over an Hour. At least it's not like last year. Last year the leaves stayed on the trees until it snowed in mid-Nov. Then they all just Dropped.

Well, let me first say I love life with a leaf loader. But today, I about had a heart attack. My brother went to the back yard to start cutting. I am loading leaves into the truck going about my business. Had my music playing on my head and raking leaves into the suction hose. I turn around and look at the loader, I see flames coming from the top of the loader. I have a billy goat loader.

Freaking leaves fell on top of the muffler and caught fire. I ran over with the rake and knocked them to the ground. The son of a gun caught the leaves on the ground on fire too. I used the to rake it further out into the street away from the pile. Instead of using a fire extingusiher, I fill a 5 gallon bucket up with water and make sure the leaves were out. I then proceeded to dump water on top of the loader to make sure I got all the flames out as well.

After all that I went ahead and finished loading and went on to the next yard. I would have loved to seen the look on my face when I saw the flames.

yea you gotta watch that. The other night i was loading up a pile in the dark and you could see the leaf particles burning and flying everywhere when they'd go near the muffler, heck half the muffler was starting to turn red after running it for 45 mins.

I almost got beat up today over a leaf job. I pulled up to a place i've done for 3 years, I start to unload the blower and another company pulls up next door. Turns out the lady called this other company too in hopes that one would get there faster than the other, but we just so happen to show up at just about the same time. So the one fool starts with me and he's like "well theres 3 of us and one of you, wanna go?" I was like wtf? They all work for this company so it's no big loss to them yet this guy is getting crazy on me. So I started to walk to the truck and I said to the dude, "You sure you wanna take on a 9mm?" lol. The crew leader started apologizing about the idiot and said to just go ahead and do it since i was there.

Dang Kurt and I thought I had a funny story. That one beats mine, no pun intended. I bet they bought crapped their pants when you said 9mm. I still am laughing.

Oh and we only got 5 yards done today. 2 of them were just covered in leaves. Also, I might fab a cover for over the muffler, good idea or bad? The sides are open so it will vent but just not 100 percent sure if I should cover it. Going to put barn doors on the box, so that should help with the leaf fall out. Right now I have a half a board back there with a tarp net over the rest.

Thanks,

JP

a shield would be ok, if you just did like a simple C looking piece of metal that covers the top and sides some, to basicly keep the leaves from falling on the muffler. Leave like a 1" gap between the muffler and the shield to let air flow and keep the muffler cool still.

And you gotta enclose the whole box, best way. I get just a very fine dust out the top of the box (all net tarp), i really should do like 2 or 3' of wood at the back of the top to keep the dust mostly towards the front of the truck, that'd help me alot.

Thanks Kurt, I read this off line and did some minor adjustments but have yet to get t the back fully enclosed. That will be my off season project.

I am winding down here pretty quickly. With any luck I should be done next week. I am still advertising you rake them we will take them though in some papers where they dont have yard waste services. I have one that is scheduled for pick up tomorrow so I hope to get some more in the area while I am there.

That will work most times on commercial clients but anymore the residential's don't care. They could care a less if you show up with a mower strapped to your back as long as the grass is cut and they don't pay sh*t.

Sadly, the commercials are getting this way too with the recession. There is no loyalty on that side. Just a healthy bottom line! The way of corporate America, screw the little guy!!

Whats up everyone? I'm kinda happy with the warm up, all the snow piles are melting, I was running out of room.

It's too early to think about spring. We still got a good 2 months before any kind of work can happen. Fine with me, the past few weeks sucked with all that snow, I'm up for a few weeks of doing nothing then maybe some more snow.

Hey Ohio guys!

So, I got robbed yesterday. I got a call from my landlord at my warehouse yesterday, she told me my lock had been cut and I need to get over there to see if anything was missing. When I got there last night, opened my garage door, and it was like slow motion, it was empty! They cleaned me out. Trailer, 56" exmark, 48" yazoo, 2 weedwackers, blower, billygoat leaf blower, billygoat leaf vac, chainsaw, hedge trimmers, tools. Everything!
The cops told me they just broke up a state wide theft ring, and there was a ton of landscaping and construction equipment, so hopefully my stuff is there. Everything was insured, but with depreciation on everything, I'm surely not going to get what its worth. These suckers did this in broad daylight yetserday, and hit 3 other warehouses in my facility.

Wow. Funny thing is, lately I have been contemplating selling everything, getting out of the business. But within the last few days I inked a couple of deals with 3 apt complexes for the 2010 season, and was rejuvenated for the spring. Now what?

Almost working time! Who thinks we'll get anymore snow?? Seems the ground is warming up pretty good, that last snow we had took awhile before it covered the ground and it was snowing good.

I have to get a few things together, get new ink for the trucks printer, new work clothes, alittle maintenance on the equipment.

I cut out the phonebooks this year, only advertising I'm doing is left over door hangers. Landed a bigger mowing account which puts me where I wanted to be on the year so any extra work is icing on the cake. Kinda nice to almost sit back going into a year.
