Heard that stihl has a bed redefiner similar to echo's in testing right now with some companies in Columbus. Expected to go into production for spring.
I just recently saw that Echo (Only reason, is because I don't even bother to look at the "Echo Section" @ my local dealer). I was waiting on some parts and was browsing the store. I just worry about the Power to back it. Echo Blows! I Own ALL Stihl Products...... But have my own concerns about Stihl producing such a product.
1.) Power: I have a FC-95 Edger and it's kind of a PIG. It would have to be an FC -110 or Better to cut in a Bed.
2.) Weight: With that large Head on that Bed Redefiner & Larger Engine. The thing would weigh a ton!
3.) Cost: My Stihl FC-95 was $400+... This thing would be $600-$700 (At Least!).
Maybe if they came out with a Kombi Attachment for less than $300... Then it might make sense. I would actually invest in a KM-130 & the "Redefiner Attatchment" then. Otherwise, I'd rather just buy a "Used" Brown TrenchMaster for under a grand and call it a day.
I am Purchasing another (third) Stihl BR-600 soon. With all the Stihl Gear that I Buy... I wish they would let me Demo out some of their NEW Gear. I would give them some good Feedback.... Honest Feedback.
Well, guys most of my customers are going to get billed for 5 cuts this month. I have never remembered billing for 4 cuts let alone 5 in the month of August. But next week, if we don't get any rain this weekend we won't be mowing much. lol

I would assume they would make it for the kombi and even if they didn't you could buy the shaft and just buy the edger head. I own a brown bededger also but there are times when i really have no room in the truck for it and its overkill on some of the beds i refresh every year.
Had rain this morning but gave me a chance to get billing done. Lawn installs are on track, id say 2/3 done with.
Made the move and ordered my 2nd mower yesterday. I'm feeling pressure to expand so i'm be ready for sping and be nice to run two mowers for leaf cleanups or for the ppl that complain and dont want to pay for bagging leaves.
Still busy busy busy here, hoping to take a 2-3 day weekend but time will tell.

Got a cut each week on everything, but they're drying out bad again, hard to turn with out ripping them up and making dust when mowing. BLAH. They're calling for 88 tomorrow and 93 friday which is gunna suck too.

Depending on how much rain we get this weekend. We might not be mowing anything, other than the irrigated lawns, but they have not been watering much either.

Got caught in a heck of a rain storm today. Waited in the truck for a half hour. Weedwacking and mowing with lightning around just doesn't strike me as a good time.

Good for you Travis. Things are going well for you I see.
Well, the rain sure has helped things along down here. I did not cut anything last week, this week everything will be cut. The grass is green and has growth on them. Some were long today but definitely not out of control, especially when the mower is on 4 to 4 and 1/4.

My yards are at 13 days right now. None of them are out of control. I skipped everything last week. My brother went out Saturday and did half of the Monday route and we finished the rest yesterday and started the Tues. route. Finished that today and did the whole Weds route. So now just the thurs route and 12 other properties that I am covering for someone that went on vacation for the next few weeks.

Stuffs back to growing good here, the grass is cutting like crap though. It's like it got really course and leaves stringers.
I've been on the hunt for a second truck for like a month now and can't find crap. Im amazed that the markets so rough yet no one wants to move on anything.

1.9" of rain today, ill need pontoons on the mower tomorrow morning!
Picked up 6 tenths of an inch here. The grass is green as can be and looking good. I noticed a tree in my Mom's front yard is starting to change colors. It is a maple (silver i believe). Some others are already yellow and red along one of my mowing routes.

They're nice, I've wanted to get one for years but the wooden box I have still was good so I wouldn't get off the money. Nice thing with the tarp style is you can get them off the truck in like 10 mins easy. My wood one takes about 30-45 mins with 2 guys. I didn't get to pick it up tonight, going tomorrow. A few people I know have them and they're usually 4 or 5 bows, and the tarp. They're outrageous around here anymore, I checked and all the shops want $1000-1200. This ones a few years old and the guys asking 600.
Sounds like a good deal Kurt.
Well, we had to double cut some lawns today. Can't believe it, it is September 22 and we are double cutting. Better than no cutting like last year.

Got yesterday for about 3 hours and mowed after one inch of rain. Just did all the rental properties. Was able to get out today for a full day. Started raining here about 5 pm lightly and then we had some more rain here a little bit ago. This year is turning out to be a good one.
While out working today, I was offered a part time job with the City that I live in with the parks and rec department. Would be a change of scenery if I would be able to do it. lol

I got a Citation in Willoughby Hills on Rt. 91 for "Unsecured Load." While Driving down the road, some Leaves & Grass (Chopped up from the Walker) were blowing out the back of my truck. It was only 1 dump from my walker and I had BOTH Boards on the sides of my truck. I even got out & tarped it up while he ran my plate..... Still got a ticket. I can PAY IT & Waive it but, I might actually burn a day @ Work & go to court. I'd like to see the dash cam. The whole situation didn't bother me until a few hours later. Once I reflected upon the whole ordeal.... He made me feel like a Criminal. "Less Tackleberry... More Mahoney!" Haha!

Us Ohio boys are dedicated.
And on the unsecure load, that's becoming big. I had a statey eyeball me for a couple miles about a month ago, had a bed full of grass but luckily it had been rained on so nothing came out. Since then I've left my mesh tarp on the truck and just pull it back at each job. Takes 10 seconds and it's alot nicer to cruise down the road and not feel like an a$$ for dumping grass and leaves everywhere. (not calling u an a$$, that's just how I used to feel lol).

Isn't it naturally decomposable and good for the environment? Go green, spread the grass and leaves down the road to provide free "green" fertilizer for the lawns lol. How's it any different than blowing grass all over the road when you mow? That is one thing I can't stand when people do.

I have to blow the street because we Edge the Curb...... Besides, I use my Walker on about 95% of my tree lawns... Less Mess!

I was totally unprepared for today. For the most part the day went well, then I hit two lawns that were covered in leaves. Well, let's see, no rakes, no tarps and no baggers. oops. Just blew everything down to the street and chopped up the straglers. On Sunday not one leave was down off the trees. Now for tommorrow I have plenty of leaf work to do and I knew that Sunday as I was out looking over properties. Needless to say the bagger is on the rider tonight, the rakes are warming up to be used and it should be a fun day. lol

I'm putting the leaf box and loader on tomorrow.
So today's fun. There's a renter at a bunch of duplexes I do, a few weeks back he came out and started mfing a guy I had helping, complaining that we won't clean up after him. Dude has a 100' hose and leaves it everywhere each week, and stuff from his patio laying everywhere. So the guy picks the hose up, throws it in the yard and starts screaming "pick my mfing hose up b****". funny part is, guy is like 120lbs and looks like kid rock, and my buddy that was helping is a fairly built guy. So now every week he has this damn hose spread everywhere all the way to his front yard. Today I was cranky so I coil his hose up on his patio...and then turn the mower and chopped it up! Lmao. Talk about stress relief. It's worth the 30 bucks for a new hose. And best of all, the property company said they're giving him a notice to start keeping his stuff on his patio lol.

The wind down here really blows. No pun inteneded. Still need to put the box on the truck. Put two tarp loads in the truck today to run to the dump. Not enough time in the day to get anything done besides cutting and that is it. Thanfully I have not reallly needed the loader yet. But later this week I sure as hell will.

At this rate, if we get the rain they are calling for this week will be a complete dud for work outside. Maybe I can get the box on when it is raining. I sure as heck won't be doing leaves in the rain.

Yup I am from solon. Basically it depends what area of solon. But the basics still. 35bucks is min per cut. Obviously if your driving from canton i would consider if that would pay the bills. And if there truely highend Then your best bet would be to sell them on full matainance contracts so you can get all the bed work and stuff added in there too. But most places anywhere from 30-60 vary rarely is there a house here with more then 2 acres

I plan on starting clean ups in late March mowing by First week/2nd of April at the latest. Every year I've been in business we mow the latest April 15-20. Some years like in 2010 it was April 1st. Back in 07 I mowed last week of March. Get those early mows in to make up for the inevitable brown out in July
I see yet another change has been done in the last couple of weeks here. Not sure if I like the new setup, but I guess it would be easier to go to the central thread and find us there.
Letters are going out this week to all customers with pricing and telling them spring cleanups will be going in the next couple of weeks. Got to move a skid of calcium out of the way to get the mowers out to do oil changes and change blades.
Hope the green season is better then the white season. :)

Home show is this weekend so I'm sure we will pull a few jobs off of that with an expected attendance of 30K+ . . . . . With the addition on the Frisch's and Golden Corrals on top of the other commercials we already have and the apartment communities I sold this winter. We will start clean ups 2nd week of March. Any of you guys go to school for horticulture or other type of agricultural sciences. The reason that I am asking is that I am currently enrolled in a horticulture program and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to a specific class to take or not to take. Some classes I do not have a choice but there are a lot of electives to choose from that might be interesting.

well im just not quick to pass judgement on someone doing anything for themselves..(although i did say you guys might be partially right about some of this). I personally understand that some of us professionals out here were not as fortunate as some others in the business. yea well there is prime example of what i was talking about too...a full blown business handed down on a platter...("make it work johnny") its alright im still not threatened. I see these guys working all the time as the big dogs, doing half azz work.....i will be getting alot in the future when everything comes to light...i may be a small operation, but dont have to lowball. My work speaks for itself:dancing:.................................it just occured to me, we may be talking about different enviro------, but anyway seems the the big dogs these days are the lowballers. Im ok with not having anything handed to me, and working for everything i have (not much overhead either), so i can grow if i want to. How many can say that.:cool2: This industry is getting too damn ridiculous towards each other in the business:usflag: and customers are going to start seeing that through much more than just the little guy charging too little, trust me!!

People are throwing their bids out up here because they're so cheap. I mean it's great to be efficient but why bid at $20 an hr when work is going for $40-60? Read the article in lawn and landscape, he argues you have to bid at 19 an hr to win bids.
One bid I saw that was thrown out, a large condo I bid at 760, a friend won at 700, he bid at 240!! He started a pissing match with one of the larger local companies and managed to beat down the snow price at a lowes to 125 a push! It's almost 6 acres! I get 300 for a 3.5 acre lot.
Underbidding or efficient?

I am heading out this week to start them. I have a feeling we will be cutting here by the end of the month if not by the end of next week the week of the 19th. Right now I am thinking the Monday the 19st we should be cutting. :waving: Suppose to get rain on Monday then not until Friday into the weekend.

Yeah, I'm shooting for the week of the 19th as well. Just for cleanups though. My Contracts don't technically start until the week of the 2nd.
I think it will be interesting to say the least after this week. I am seeing high 60's low 70's this week. With rain on Monday that will kick start these yards.
So gas prices are going to be high this year. I got lucky today and got to a station before they raised it up. I paid 3.49/gallon. It has since gone up to 3.88/gallon there. Crazy as hell. Everyone else has been at 3.89 all weekend. :dizzy:

I haven't used them. I get almost all my mulch from Mulch 1st, up here in Sunbury. He's a local landscaper who opened up a retail side a little while back. Now he's making his own mulch. I've used Kurtz Brothers too a couple times, and Ohio Mulch a few times, but I've done a lot of business with Mulch 1st, so I use him most frequently. A little out of the way for you, but the service is excellent, and the prices are usually pretty close.

Thanks.
Note: I Am on the N.E. side of Cleveland am located smack dab in the middle of 3 Quality Suppliers.
I use Kurtz Bros. / Landscapers Wholsale for colored Mulch. I think they use "Amerimulch" (Dyed & ground up pallets). Good quality and nearby. Prices are O.K. I purchase other Materials from them as well, such as "Black Diamond Edging", stakes, UniLok, etc. First Class Operation (at least here ;)).
For plain old "Double Processed Bark Mulch" I use a Local supplier. This makes up %90 of my usual jobs. Prices are great and I dump all my grass there too, so it's nice to pick up a load of Mulch at the end of the day after I dump yard waste.... Then I'm ready to go in the morning.
I haven't had the best experience with Ohio Mulch, That's ME Personally. In their defense though, they had just aquired the facility here in Wickliffe.... Their Operation was just getting straightened out from their previous Property Operator. I puncured a 3 tires (2 Trailer and 1 of my duellies my dump) on 2 seperate occations. Plus they charged alot to dump grass, sticks, & basic cleanup debris, & didn't want leaves mixed w/ grass, etc. I am not knocking them.... It was just my experience early on, & there are just too many other places that I can Dump and pick up Product Cheaper.
I know that you guys are down in C-Bus, but we have a few Companies in common up here too. Just thought I'd throw in my "two-Cents" about my experiences with them.

Cash flow is always nice. Last week was just insane on the amount of growth on these freaking yards around here. This week should be a little cooler so I hope it slows the growth down.

Oh, and for the love of god....please let it snow this coming winter. I like to eat.

I do powerwashing. but I'm in Cincy. We'll she pay for my gas and let me stay the night at her place? I'm a nice guy! I swear!

Yea and I like snow days! First year ever without a day off or even a delay!
Yeah, that was some crazy growth. Some slow down would be good. 80's are a little too warm for early May if you ask me. Can't help you with the powerwashing thing, I can't think of anyone.

I had a terrible day, it was just dry enough to cut, but just wet enough to be annoying and cause tire marks, sliding and enough grass to need to double cut. Yep today sucked

anybody from wooster area on here?
We look to be going into a small drought boys. Raise those decks up. AFter this week, I might be going to every 10 days. Things are starting to dry up where other companies are cutting them short. I have had my deck on 4 for the past couple of weeks. I did notice one starting to get some brown. Absolutely no shade on it.
Got hedge trimming to get done so a small break in the mowing won't be to bad. That is until my arms get tired.

It's been dry here all year. We had one week where it grew like mad a couple weeks ago and now it's into that dry thinner stage like it usually hits in mid June. I'm at 4" too, this week will be a fast one with how dry it is.

I like these trugreen commercials where they say they'll create a custom plan for your lawn. Yea it's custom, everyone gets 49-0-0. Lol. Their lawns have been nasty this year, tons of weeds, browning real bad all year.
