i have briggs model 311777 0448-e1 and am having troule timing it.
If I am correct you just line up the marks on the crank gear with themark on the cam gear this dosent seem to work and ideas

oh i forgot, this is an 17 1/2 horse motor seems to be 180 out when i line up the marks

There is only one timing option and that is as you have indicated unless you happen to have a sheared flywheel key. Improper air gap between flywheel and coil can affect timing but if you are in the area of .010" you will be alright. Do you have good spark at the plugs? You might want to check your valve adjustments as well.

I'd Bet valves, Make sure the piston is 1/4" down the cylinder past TDC compression stroke and adjust at .005-.007" both intake and exhaust.
