What's the best way to upgrade trailer axle

I bought a home made deck-over trailer. The trailer seems to be built well with a expanded metal floor. The only problem is the axles, they are not as beefy as I would like so I am looking to change it. So do I just buy a complete axle kit from a supplier or is there a better way. I've read here about using a vehicle axle, will that work ,or what about something even heavier like a pickup axle? The trailer is 7 x 12 and being a deck over I don't really have to worry about making the width of the new axle match the old one. Anyone have any experience doing this?

I would just order a new trailer axle from a trailer dealer in your town or from www.etrailerpart.com. You should just be able to drop the axles and mount the new kit up directly.

I did that on a boat trailer. I think I bought from the same website as above. Good prices and you can get the complete kit or just the parts. I think it would be a waste of time trying to cobble a vehicle axle onto a trailer.
