Get a price for it delivered. Charge a Hour labor per yard.
That is for nothing more than buying and spreading the mulch. You must consider the other issues.

Add your cost plus 20% plus the labor charges. Should be around 60 to 80. If it is a yard or less then the charge is higher because I have one of my guys go get it.

$85 per yard installed + delivery. Does not include edging or bed prep however I would charge for edging seperatly because I won't do a mulch bed without it. I would also probably use a bobcat to spread it so it would take me and a helper 2 hours tops.

Cheers
Jeff

I charge 50 per yard period over 10 yards. I can get it installed by a blow guy between 30 and 37 a yard. I make 13-20 a yard for making a phone call. Under 10 I charge 65 a yard plus delivery fee.

I sell more over 10 yards than any other.

I charge from $100-$120 per yard...this for everything including edging, cleaning the beds, etc. Depends on the difficulty...most of my jobs involve working around a LOT of plants, lots of small beds...if it's a more wide open job you can really crank out the mulch much faster so I'll price it at a lower rate. One of those things where you will get better at estimating as you go.

Yall don't want to come to FL:nono:

Trying to get $90 in labor to spread a pallet of mulch is pushing it.
Pallet is 5.8 yards, 52, 3ft. bags. About $160

So $160 + $90= $250

$250/5.7 yards= $43.10/yard

Delivery fee? Customer's viewpoint "You're coming here, get some mulch on the way."

Trying to charge the prices you guys are talking about would result in a call to the police....... "911 What is your emergency" customer....."There's a landscape guy here that's been smoking crack"

Wow this pricign seems very high, if you can get it great mayeb I will reevaluate what we charge. We can do between 1.5 - 2 yard of mulch per hour depending on each site of course. We get our mulch for $17 a yard delivered and we charge $48 per yard installed. For a standard 12 yard mulch install we would get $576
$204 is our price for the mulch, so that leaves $372, which would take 8 hours which is $46.5 an hour for the labor and what we shoot for on most maintenance (using minimal equipment is $45 per hour).

What is everyones typical hourly rate for labor for general landscaping and maintenance (assuming no big equipment charges).

We would charge $60 per hour estimated for lawn mowing ($45 for the person and $15 for all equipment), $45 for most manual labor.

Because loose mulch isn't much cheaper. Palletized bags are easier to handle. I put 2 pallets on a 6X10 landscape trailer (11.6 yards) with room left for wheelbarrows. On the job, 5 bags go in a wheelbarrow; 6 if it's a close, smooth run. That's well over 1/2 yard per trip.
Some of these people talk like a 10 yard mulch job is something...... It's good solid morning job for a solo guy.

Dang, I can install 2.5 yards of mulch per hour if I am really in a good mood that day. The slowest I have ever installed was 1.5 yards per hour.

Duuuuuude.... that cracked me up!

I hear crap sometimes too... and I'm relatively cheap. ($55-$65yd) Have one particular community. $500,000 + homes with some of the most elaborate landscapes ever. More beds then lawn after construction of the house. Second year in their house... homeowners are surprised that their house needs 22+ yards of mulch JUST to refresh. "What do you mean $1500 for mulch???.... I'll have my husband move it."

I have no problem telling folks there is a minimum order for materials and I have to pay my guys to go get the stuff. You tell them...... If the client is too dumb to know this then leave them.

dont go rent a bobcat unless you have experience with one. By the time u get a hang out it, it wont be worth it. they run about $200 a day here. that will really eat into your profit. 2 guys and 2 wheelbarrows. should take u bout 4- 5 hours. Be sure to go over it with a landscape rake and smooth it out, make it look GOOD. be proud when you pull out of the driveway!

Yeah. Your husband is in shape but about to find out how out of shape he is. On these I find they call me a week later with 1/2-3/4 of the material left.

I have not problem telling folks where I buy my materials. I get a wholesale price and I buy in bulk on a per job basis. Most folks are not going to go load there city pick up with mulch and off load it themselves. They can buy direct or get the same price from me.

If I go get it, I don't charge a delivery fee. I just add an hour to the estimate. I tell them the estimated Man Hours and the material cost. I tell them my estimate on Man Hours is a little high and they are welcome to pay for time and material.

Don't bullshit people. Tell them your labor rate. Tell them your guys work for a living and you pay taxes, workers comp and un-eployment. Don't spend a lot of time on it, but let them know you run a real business with real people with experiance. Never lost money yet and few people dispute my estimate on time, which is high so I make about 20 to 30 percent more.
