It is a VERY nice machine - real strong. However, it costs as much as my torqued-up diesel. To each his own, I guess.:usflag:

The 31hp Vanguard is a powerhouse, you definetly can't go wrong with it.

Well that's what I was looking at till I found another mower on sale. I'm still waiting for some feedback on the new decks (Triton upgraded) this Spring. No one much has had a chance to mow with the new deck in some lush Northern grasses. I feel it would be a great mower but it wouldn't hurt to let the grass grow to get a feel for the deck and how it will preform. The price I've seen seems in line with everything else. I think the Exmark forum listed it as $10,300 with the 60" deck so it could be bought for in the 9's probably. Of course the 66" deck and a good suspension seat will run the price up.

im running the new 33 hp briggs on my newest mower, more power than you need which is nice at times. the only problem ive had with it were that its boggs out if you throttle down near a mulch bed or car and then throttle back up, sometimes it stalls completely. they threw a new carb on it. it also had a gasket go and they had to pull the engine and fix it, but that does happen with any mass produced engine.

My 72" 31hp vanguard blew at 768 hrs last friday, but they are putting an new 31 on it under warranty. 31 vanguard on my 66" is still running great @ about 500 hrs.

i have that same mower.... you'll LOVE it!!!!! only time i got mine to die is when i got an inch thick rubber mat caught in the blades. i was mulching leaves in a yard almost 2 weeks ago and it was under them and i didnt see it. other than that it barrelled right through anything i threw at it. congrats and good luck!!!

All engine manufacturers have a bad lemon every now and then. Most of the reviews on the bigger Briggs made by Diahatsu have been positive. I'll have to say Kawasaki has been a hard act to follow reliability wise but even they have had some problems.

I bought the 31 briggs on a 60" lazer back in december. Still waiting for the dam thing. Dealer said mid feb. I went there mid march and he then said april 15th. WTF. He's saying he wont have ultra vac for it till then. Well I brought out some of the four letter words and now he's saying he'll get on it an have it next week. Yea like I believe that.

I'll let you know how the machine is once I get it. LOL I know a few others that own them and they say it is great machine.

I have the 31 HP w/ the 60" 2005 Older Deck not the Triton but I love it anyway. It's done great for me. Paid $8900 for mine. The dealer called last week, they had a TSB on the clutch spacer, They replaced it with a thicker one (under warranty).

I have an 06 with a 60" deck and 27 hp kohler, also an 07 with a 60" deck and 31hp vanguard. Just got the 07 delivered last week can't wait for the grass to green up to use it. I used it to move some of my fall attachments to storage, and it really has a ton of power.

Wasn't The Vanguard A Venture With Kawasaki For Overall Design,Or Am I Way Off?

Big block Briggs Vanguard built by Diahatsu a member of Toyota group for Briggs. Mitsubishi is also a member of this group and may have had some input according to hear say?

Anyway the big blocks are built in Japan and should be very high quality. I would not associate them with the smaller Briggs of years ago that were built for mostly consumers and didn't have the greatest reputation.

They are in direct competition with Kawasaki so I doubt Kawasaki had any input.
