I was approached by HD to be a patio/wall installer for them. They are only looking for ICPI and NCMA installers. I don't have to buy any product from them, I use my own pricing, schedule, everything. I deal w/ the customer from start to finish. They just supply the leads! They say that we will get 10-12 leads per week. Anyone w/ experience? What do you think?

It does sound interesting, Chris, I was actually thinking about contacting them, although I don't know if we can support that much work.

I cant support that much either, but I may use it as a "jack the price waaayyy up and see if someone bites" kinda thing. As I get more info, I will post it.

There has to be a catch somewhere, look for it.

I'm sure they are not doing it just to be great people.

Chris

Keep in mind most people are going to use the HD Credit to get the job so you can get full price in many cases. Just sell the reasons for the pricing.

I had real shittly luck with HD Installation in my home and will likely have to sue them.

There was an article in hardscape mag a while back about a Pavestone installer doing all of HD's work....

I would think that HD would want you to use Pavestone, wouldn't they?

Actually, HD is now hooked up w/ Techo-Bloc. I don't have all of the info yet, but I will know shortly.
Koot - Actually I've been working at Lowes, so this may be a conflict of interests.:waving:

Better be careful! It takes a long time to get paid by the Home Crapper.
Customer picks out product at store. Clerk puts in all info into computer its routed to a 6 person team in charge of sending out contractors to the entire Eastern U.S.
Contractor measurs job, gives price. Customer goes to Home Crapper picks out product tells the idiot worker the measurment. Pays for it. Contractor does job. Contractor does not quote labor price. Contractor wants more money you have to ask Home Crapper.
Home Crapper takes 100 years to pay.
I got all this from someone on the inside.
Yes I hate the Home Crapper!
I cant stand it when customers go to a home improvement store to buy trees and plants. Somthing that grows is left to someone who really doesnt care or have the knowledge to care for it for 10.00 hr.

Green - I read the same article. That co. made a fortune working with HD.

The HD installer program allows the homeowner to finance the entire project through HD and the installer makes 89% of the labor costs. It takes about a year to get into the program so good job. We are working for that deal this year. HD makes 11% off the labor, finance charges, and retail value on the Pavestone. They make out okay!

Some of the largest hardscapers in our area on in this program and they keep growing.

I do not think my ideal customers even go to Home Depot??!?

My ideal customer would be the homeowner who has already been financed for the project, already been sold the materials, already has a warranty through HD, and my check is guaranteed through a multi-million dollar corporation. Less risk = less rewards, but more volume and guaranteed payment makes up for that by far.

Just noticed the post Chris. We are the HD installers for 6 stores here in TN. We do all the landscape design, installation, water features, landscape lighting, paver patios and block walls. It's a great thing, but dont' expect to get great leads all the time. It is a VERY long process to get set up and get rolling. You can PM me anytime if you have any questions or concerns.

Hope everything is going well and God Bless

Sounds like working for HD is a lucrative deal. I think I'll stick to working with customers without big brother HD looking over my shoulder. If you work with them, fine--but sounds like more of a hassle than what it is worth.

IT SUCKS....the leads are terrible, and most people have already been into the store and seen those 99cent blocks and they come up with this low budget plan in their heads.....you show up with your proposal, and they most times call the cops.....LMAO.....You will get maybe one or two that are worth your while, but most are looking for el cheapo. I mean it could be a great way to fill in a few gaps, but for the most part you will be putting a lot of miles on your vehicle......

Oh, and unless its different in each state, you will have to use their product....
