I have a potential new customer and she wants no pest. Pre emergent. Can i get any kind of control my first year of using CG? I know as time goes on my control will improve. Also, Yes, I have discussed cultural control as well. Thanks,
-Jay

I believe timing Is very critical.

According to the phd's I've talked to, the enzyme that CG contains takes about 2 applications at 15+lbs/k, twice a year for at least two years to build up. I used it on several lawns, including my own, and it did nothing for the crabgrass. So, no, you won't see results from the pre-emergant aspect of it.
What you WILL see is one hell of a nice lawn. CG is a terriffic fert. That will make the lawn thick and green, which will help minimize the weeds.

Sorry to bump this but I have a question about CG...
Since it's not classified as a pesticide by the EPA, can I legally apply it without an applicator's license?

In most states you will require a license.
Also, if you are not purchasing it from a supplier who has labeled it with the state as a pesticide you have three choices.
1) Tell the customer it is only a fertilizer and make sure all your documents also reflect that.
2) Tell them it is a pesticide and label it.
3) Purchase it from someone who has the license already.
Additionally, do not tell the customer this is going to work as fast or as good as a chemical. It takes soil temps in the 50's before it begins to break down
and release the proteins required to provide 'some' weed control.
Generally, I tell customers to apply this 60 - 90 days in advance of when you want it to begin working. However, if you are applying this year after year then it does have a residual and your response after 3 years is much better than year one.
That is why we offer our liquid program in place of or in conjunction with CGM.
This provides results on the emerged weeds while the CGM begins to increase soil fertility, organic matter, tilth and of course 'some' weed prevention and control.
