Aeration also works wonders.

If you are having a problem in the spring with small bald spots, get a hand rake and rough up the area a bit. Mix a bit of seed, started fertilizer, and peat moss together and sprinkle that on the bald spots. 3-4 days later you should begine to see germination and in about 2 weeks the spot should be gone or close to gone!
