If your Kohler 13hp takes the 5205002 Kohler filter the cross over is:
Purolator L10241
PureOne PL10241
Wix 51348
Mobil1 M1-102

All Kohlers with oil filters take the filters that Bo Jack listed above.

All are good filters, take your choice. I use the PureOne's.

They are not "all" good filters. I would stick with Purolator (Pure 1 prefered), Motorcraft Longlife, Mobil 1 and AC Delco.

I was referring to the ones Bo Jack mentioned
Now my 2 cents worth on filters. The filters listed above will "cross over" from the Kohler number. What does that mean? If you look in the Wix catalog under application by part number the 51348 filter fits Chrylser 2.2 liter engines and V.W. 1.7 liter engines. A far cry from an air cooled engine. The thread size and seal size are the same and the oil flows the same way thru the filter and it will stop dirt, but what about a by-pass valve and an anti-drain back valve? I was always taught don't always trust a cross over. Make sure that part was designed for that application. On my Ford product at home I use a motrocraft filter, on my pontiac I use a delco, and on my caravan I use a Kohler (caught you guys on that one LOL). The thing is what is your equipment worth to you? All of the filters are designed to remove dirt and debris, but what did the factories have in mind for the other components. Shop around for volume discounts on filters. Some people might give a good break if you buy a case at a time. Again just my 2 cents worth.

Are you questioning whether or not the above named filters have these items? Or the quality of these items in the named filters?
I question whether they have it , but that is a good question about what is the quality of the by-pass and anti-drain back valve. I hadn't thought of that one as well. Thanks Richard.

All of the filters being discussed have bypass valves and antidrainback valves. Almost all filters do.
The differences in any filter is really what the filter is constructed of and what the valves are constructed of.
Take Fram filters for example. I have opened one of these and after doing so I wouldn't put one of these on anything.
There is a very small amount of filter media inside of a Fram. I counted around 43 pleats inside of the Fram.
The end caps of a Fram filter are cardboard.
If you look inside of a Fram (just look in the hole) you will see that the holes for the oil to pass through are very small and there are very few of them compared to other filters.
The antidrainback valve is made of nitrile rubber and is very stiff at room temperature. It is said that the Fram valve does not keep oil from draining back at times.
The Purolator Pure 1 is almost the opposite of the Fram.
Just take everything that is undesireable about a Fram and reverse it to get a Purolator Pure 1 filter.
The anitdrainback valve is made of silicon rubber and does not harden up even at low temps.

I was changing the oil in my Scag SW-52 this past weekend and with the Pure One 10241 filter, I had major leakage at start up. I had the filter as tight as I could get it and it still leaked at the base of the filter. I was replacing the Kohler 5205002. I have the Command CV-14
Any one else have this happen before with the Pure One filter?

I use the same filter on my 25 Kohler and 12 1/2 Kawasaki and haven't seen either leaking. Dunno what to tell you other than to use the Kohler part. Sorry to hear that.

I have seen that once before on another Kohler Command. The guy switched to another Purolator filter and it was fine.

I just go to my Dealer and get what the Manufacture recommends, I personally feel safer this way. Not saying an after
market filter isn't right, and they could be better ?? I'll just stay with the recommended filter.....

Do you buy the oil filters for your Toyota at the dealer?
