What would be the best for me to do...Get a traded in commercial mower or a new residential mower? I only have a couple thousand to put into it. I have lots of mowers in my area. What residential mowers would be best and if I wanted to mow a few other lawns with it? My lawn is about 2 acres.

the one that is the best is the one that fits YOUR needs and does the job YOU are looking for.
You have not given nearly enough info. to get any good info.

OK I have about two acres to mow, not many obstacles. But I want a zero turn to save me time. The residential mowers that are in my area are: Husqvarna,Cub, Toro, JD, Troy Bilt. A used commercial would be a Grasshopper or Dixie Chopper. The used would be about 2 years old with low hours of course. I am looking to spend 2,000 or less!

Im looking for about a 50" cut. Also, what kind of engines are best?

my advice...$2k won't get you much. Try a used JD LX280 AWS 48inch deck Kawasaki Engine, that's as close as you will get to a ztr, still a residential machine, but a little more durable than a new Home Cheapo mower. $2,000 comercial w/ low hours will be hard to come by and I would be skeptical of anyone trying to sell you a comercial ZTR for $2K "with low hours"

Ok so what if I could spring an extra $1,000 to $1,500? What kind of a mower for home use could I get for 3 to $4,000?
