I got a call today to bid a pretty good job. She wants 3 acres cut every week and a additional 5 acres every two weeks. All grass, pretty smooth cutting. What would you guys charge? I was going to quote her 85.00 for the 3 acres, and 110.00 for the 5. Does this sound too high or too cheap?

thats sounds way too cheap for here in my area but i do not know your market. try to get atleast 45 per acre. and you could always call another company around you and pretend to be the owner of the property and see what they want to charge.

Bid on estimated time. Is there alot to trim around? What equip will you be using. For me 3 acres w/ maybe 20 minutes of trimming can be done and gone in less than 90 minutes. I say your about on target maybe a little low (say $100 for the 3, and $125 for the 5.) Just my .02

Around here, I would bid $45 first acre + 25/acre after = $95 for the 3 acres and $145 for the 5 acres. I probably would not get it for that, but I am busy enough that that is what I would bid. If I needed the work, it would probably be 80 and 125. Then after a year of high quality mowing, they would probably be very receptive to the higher numbers. Sometimes you have to get your foot in the door to prove yourself to the customer.

I wouldn't reccomend posing as a customer and getting a quote from another company as suggested above. Very bad idea.
