I tried searching but couldnt find the answer....

The hour metre on a 04 SuperZ, does it turn when engine running or while seated?

Cheers!

I believe the 04 models were only running if you were sitting in the seat.
But I recall there being something different with the EFI's, I think they run as long as the key is on.

Thanks Pj!
Could you do me a favor and make sure for me? Its an 04 28efi.
Its just that I may be getting some council sub contract work and they charge or pay by the machine hour metre.
If it dont run while off the seat, I'll be ripping myself off when picking up branches and rubbish etc.

Id appreciate it mate!

I verified it today.
The key must be on and someone sitting in the seat for the hour meter to run on your model.

Bugger!

Ok, thanks Pj!

I would buy a aftermarket hour meter that runs off the spark plug and install it just for use with this mowing contract, that way as long as the engine is running the meter is running and you are not getting squeezed out of money from the council.

Thats really my only option! Is there any brand that is worth looking into? We are hard up for stuff like that over here.
PM me if you like!

I would look at Tiny Tach.

Mickhippy: Last fall I installed a tiny tach on my 52 Mini Z / 23 Kaw and it was easy and it keeps track of total hours during which the engine is running. I ordered it over the internet and received it quickly in the mail.

Pj, have found there are different metres to suit different engines. I wouldnt have a clue which one to get.....

Model 2C
Used on engines with one spark firing on each revolution of the crankshaft.
(Most single cylinder 2 and 4 stroke engines with flywheel magnet)

Model 4C
Used on engines which have one spark for every 2 revolutions of the crankshaft, such as those with a distributor driven from a crankshaft.

Model 1C
Used on twin cylinder engines with a spark firing every 180 degrees of the crankshaft.

What do ya reckon?

Not quite sure, its one of the last 2.
Your mower has a EFI engine right?
Let me know then I can find out which meter you need.

MickHippy: I don't remember which version I got. When I found the 4 choices on the website for Tiny Tach i called the phone number and told the lady that answered that I had a 23 Kaw and she indicated which version I should get. It worked fine when it was installed. They seemed real knowlegeable about these kinds of engines. I have had my Mini Z since 2003 and it is a great machine!:weightlifter:

I thought so.
The EFI has 1 coil per cylinder for the ignition system.
I am going to have to find out which tach they recommend for use with the EFI engine.
