Would this guy be considered a "lowballer"?

Local guy offering this in the paper.

Nope, he just factors in his treatments into a year long program. Lets say he mows 40 times a year @ $30 which = $1200. That would be basically $100 a month, add in the 6 treatments for $50 = $300. Total now is $1500. That equals to $125 a month. So if a customers signs up for a year round program and you tell em it's gonna cost $125 then you're still getting your money for doing the treatments.

Now I know I didnt include all the other things, but I was just giving you a general idea of how he could say FREE TREATMENTS for a contract.

Logic would suggest that this is a better deal than "first cut free" etc etc?

First cut free is not the way to go.

I actually do this with great results. I price myself high but press the fact that I am giving them over $200 in savings on average. I also press that we do high quality work and that we bag all of our clippings setting apart from competition. After the first year I can leave the mowing prices high and charge them for there spraying. Do you consider this bad business?

It's actually a pretty good idea, clever marketing IMO.

Most of the fert. companies around here offer either a discount or a free app for early or pre-payment. This is kind of the same, but differant.

I'm doing the free first cut!!!

The catch- Pay for season in full, or sign yearly contract with a spring clean up.
