Where do most of you look when purchasing used equipment. I am thinking about selling my Bobcat S185 and would like to research prices and places to sell.
Thanks,
Tom

On the Miami craigslist 90% of the postings are scams. Same thing with Ebay as well. If you buy there be VERY careful! Lots of companies sell their used skid steers to small companies or homeowners who used them infrequently. That's my favorite way to go because it just means more side jobs in the future.

Don't seem to have that problem near San Antonio. In fact, craigslist has been great for us.

not sure that 90% are scams...i get most of my business of CL...and have had great success w/ it...just recently sold my skid and bought another one in 2 days!
but there is definately scams on ebay and craigslist but you should be able to easily spot them...if someone is selling a 2005 Bobcat S185 with low hours for $4900 (or something to that effect) its a SCAM...if its too good to be true then it probably is
also dont deal w/ anyone from overseas...

For everyone: Do your research!! I have noticed that the ebay scams involve pictures taken from sites like Machinerytrader.com (another good place to move iron) and possibly Rock and Dirt and use the same picture with an overseas ph. #. I busted a one to Ebay a while back. they were selling a CAT CTL for $12 or $13k! Picture was copied from a legit machinery trader ad.
Anyway, craigslist has been a good place for us. Ebay too but again, you have to do your research and be realistic about expectations. Picture the other guy in the same boat as you. Not rich, just trying to get out of a machine for an upgrade or maybe they bit off more than they could chew with a machine payment.. a lot of guys get "entrepreneurialholism" or something like that and end up with a lot of iron they can't support in the wet or cold months. Just my two cents worth but I have sold a number of machines and have had positive transactions.
Oh, another place to talk: your local dealer. They may have a buyer who needs good, used machine so they can buy that shiny new attachment from the dealer. Doesn't hurt to talk to them. My dealer has helped me out of two or 3 skidsteers over the last decade with no commission fees and they even picked up and delivered and got me paid.

Some dealers are good about this, I know two guys who got skid steers at a really good price from the local New Holland dealer. All the dealer did was refer them to the sellers, no fees. Depends where you are, but definately asking your dealer, or even friends in the business makes a big difference! I found my free Mustang 1700 from someone who just needed some tires mounted. In fact I have traded work for parts, and traded for other things. If you have an honest mechanic ( very rare ) ask him as well!
