Today I mowed a lawn where three labradors cohabitate...Needless to say they make a lot of doggy fertilizer.... do you guys pick it up? I did just because there was soooo much and I didnt want to step in it or get it all over my mower. (Plus I thought it would score extra points with the homeowner and make for a healthier lawn.) Do you charge extra for that service? Thankfully it was quite cold today- and the stinko wasnt too bad. It took about an extra 15-20 mins-

I tell all my customers it's $3 per pile if it is not cleaned...they clean it...every now and then they miss one...I don't worry about it...the $3 is more or less a bluff to scare them and to encourage them to clean up after their dog...I hate dogs by the way.

Good idea- I don't think these folks picked up the crap all winter. Absolutely no way to mow around all of it.....I filled three buckets full. The grass was getting tall and needed attention. The customer wasn't home - otherwise I most likely would have said something. Fortunately are decent paying customers.

I just did a clean up for a lady with 3 dogs. I filled a 5 gallon bucket with do-do from the winter.........$100 for 45 minutes work........ that's about a dime per turd.....

I've noticed that when you start doing extra stuff like that, people start expecting it everytime, which is when it becomes a problem. The $3 is an excellent idea I think.

Has anyone ever hit a pile with a trimmer. Oh boy what fun that is!

Oh yes, I have hit a pile before. Had to clean off my glasses and went to the nearest rest room to wash my face. I was so disgusted, I made my boss drop the account because of it. We cut it with a walker and the dog turds would get all piled up between the back wheels and then we would put it away in our enclosed trailer. Get to the next job and open the gate and WHAM!!! A nice big gust of dog poo stench just hits you and almost knocks you over:laugh: Not my idea of fun. I refuse to cut lawns with dogs that do not maintain there dog poo. How would you like to have the job of the companies that go around all day scraping up dog poop and putting it in bags in the truck?? I bet it dont smell to nice in mid summer!!;)

I don't know about you all, but when I hear that a customer accepts my service proposal I send them a thank you card along with what to expect for the service. For instance i'll put that you can expect your mowing service every Tue, so please pick up all toys, lawn furniture, and doggy dirt off the yard, as well as bringing all children and pets inside so they don't get injured.
I let them know that if its not clean we won't mow thier yard. I've also had customers ask me if we would just clean up thier backyard and just bill them afterwards.
One of the worst feelings is hitting a huge pile of poo with a string trimmer and have it splatter all over you and then after you think you've cleaned yourself off you still smell wafts of phantom poo for the rest of the day.

I tell customers that they are responsible for picking up dog $hit. If they don't pick it up, the back yard doesn't get mowed and they get charged the full price.

$hit guys i have a lady i do and she has 3 horses, 4 dogs, and 2 goats on about a 700k piece of land with her house on it that backs up to the golf corse. 700k is alot around here by the way, anyway she lets them all out everyonce in awhile to play in the yard, so how do i deal with that? did i mention she pays me 250.00 a week to mow and trim, im in and out in an hour and a 1/2. i take the $hit and her check

We just deal with it. Somehow we still mow whithout getting dirty, I just dont run the tire over it. I will never pick any up though, no way. We have one yard that has two cool dogs that will fetch their ball all day if we wanted them to. Every time we start in the back yard, they both crape rite away. must be exited to see us or something, but fresh crap is the worst.;

Pet waste removal can be an extemely profitable business. Your already at the site, so charge your client to remove the waste. We charge $7 per week for one dog, the second dog would be another $5 dollars a week. I distribute this waste to my hobby farm, mix it with compost, add a few elements to it, and we sell and apply it as ORGANIC FERTILIZER. Its the easiest way to make money I have ever seen. Last year we made over $5500 picking up the sh**, and conservatively $2100 applying the stuff! In my area, this is a growing demand and every year we see more clients requesting not only the service, but then the application of the organic fertilizer.

Dog pee and crap are really high in acids, and if left on the lawn too long, it will start to brown out the lawn is some spots. I have a customer who has a German Sheppard, and a Lab and they $h!t all over the place. I just charge her $10 extra per visit for having to mow over all the bull$h!t...LOL....But its a good practice to pick up dog poo if you are looking to have a great looking lawn and thats what I tell all my accounts with dogs.....and most people I am very strict about dog poo, but for some of my older, very profitable accounts I just deal with it.....Usually save all my doggy lawns for last, therefore I can wash my machinces before the next days usage.

Sling it baby, sling it. (and hose it off at the end of the day) I have an open trailer, but it stays in my garage at night and I don't want the entire garage to smell like dog crap.

I used to mow 200+ lawns in the city, they were very small, so all I would use was my trimmer, and at least once a month, I would wack a few turds, and it would splatter all over me, my safety glasses, and face would be covered in it, I learned to search for the turds before I cut. I should have brought a dog with me to sniff the turds out, because I couldn't always find them if the grass was real tall.
