This is for my own personal residence. Looking for advice on building a retaining wall that will have a driveway running a long side of the top stone. Do I build a footer? What kind of drainage? I am looking at a straight shot - the wall will start at 6" high go to 2.5' then recede back to 6" in height over 95 feet. The 6" sections obviously will not have much back pressure. Most of the weight will be on the 2.5' section. Can I just go down below topsoil pour a footer and go? It will save me a LOT of money on stone. If I go below frost line - I am looking at a 3' to 5.5' back to 3' wall! This will be a lot of stone!

Also I am digging right into the side of the hill. What do I use? Skisteer? then a backhoe for footer? What will this cost me in material if I do the work myself? I have two weeks off to complete...
