anyone know what these are?

the second one is all over the place. it kinda looked like henbit or speedwell. speedwell doesn't come out this early though does it? it definitely wasn't henbit because it grew too low to the ground.

first one looks like a wild flower that has just spread into the lawn.

The first one is Deadnettle, and the second one is speedwell.

agree.

But, for killing it purposes, no difference in henbit and deadnettle.

Henbit and speedwell (Veronica).
Speedwell is a winter annual. Tiny blue flowers. It starts in the fall. It blooms before the first mowing in cool season grasses--temps of about 50, before dandelions. Very difficult to kill--but Drive is now recommended for speedwell. Give it a try and let us know. Also as a winter annual, it goes to seed and dies when temps hit about 85. Gone by the fourth of July.

Hey, now! LOL It is Deadnettle. Often confused with Henbit. Henbit has a different leaf configuration. It DOES grow up in a tower like that, though. :D GOD I love having fun on here! Are you out doing your pre-emergents yet?

Second is "Corn Speedwell"...Very difficult to control but is short lived when temps increase. Since it is flowering at this point it's growth has slowed down dramatically thereby compicating weed control absorption/translocation. Use a spreader/sticker for thorough coverage and ester herbicides if possible. "Confront" was a excellent product for this as well.
