I could tell that today was Friday the 13th.

1. First job of the day my 32" mower won't start. The yard is too big and grass to high to use my 21', so I have to go home and get my 36".

2. Third job of the day my 52" starts running on one cylinder. I just put new plugs in it two weeks ago. So I use the 36" and finish the job. Then go buy new plugs for the 52" and that fixed the problem. I know I should carry extra plugs but I had just put new ones in it two weeks ago and never had this problem before.

3. Forth job of the day my new employee smashes his hand between a wooden gate post and the mower handle. He smashed it pretty good. It swelled up real big. So we stop for a while then decide he is going to take the rest of the day off to put ice on it and let it rest.

I finished the day by myself. I'm still trying to get used to having an employee. I have lots of doubts about this but I really think in the long run it will be better. At least while I ran home to get a different mower, he was able to keep trimming. It was just one of those days. That is more problems in one day than I had all season last year. They say things happen in three's' so hopefully that's it for this season or at least this month.

Good luck to you, hope things get better.

My grandmother died today. My best friend (My dog of 11 years), died on Tuesday. I have strep throat and an upper respiratory infection, and have still been working out in the rain and snow all week. Some days I dont know why I even bother. I still have two other dogs (My wifes and my daughters' dogs, actually) , but it's just not going to be the same coming home after work when MY buddy isn't at the door wagging his tail!

I was going to start a thread just like this.

I lost half the day because it rained all day yesterday and things where just to wet this morning to do cleanups. I droped off my lazer wednesday to get a new hydro pump and tires. I picked it up today and was expecting a bill of about 600-700 bucks. Nope, $1060. Oh well its only money. Then I got to my first cleanup around noon. Well by 1 oclock my throtle cable broke. Found a piece of string in the truck and tied the throtle wide open so I could finish JRCOing the yard. Blew off the yard and back to the dealers. I also dropped of a backpack on wednesday because it would not shut off unless you pulled the plug wire. When I picked it up this morning I didn't notice they put the handle for the throtle on upside down. Had them fix it while I was getting the throtle cable. And saturday I have to hire a babysitter to watch my kids so I can keep up with some of the cleanups. Nasty weather coming in for sunday.

Well your week has been worst than mine. I know what you mean about your buddy. My dog is getting old and he is my best friend. He always looks out the window and watches for me to get home. He follows me around the house. He is always within 5 feet of me. It might seem silly to some people but it will break my heart when he's gone.

I hope you feel better and things get better for you.

I caught a virus that is going around on Tuesday. I vomited twice at a lawn I was mowing on Wednesday. Thank goodness it was a leasing property, which is uninhabited at the time. Today was actually a good day, except I was moving kind of slower than normal. Bad weather rolled in thisevening and I have a huge term paper due on Tuesday night for one of my criminal justice classes up at UNT. I am hoping I can get the paper taken care of tomorrow and have Sunday for mowing some empty houses and a vacant lot. Friday the 13th doesn't bother me. I was born on the 13th and occasionally my birthday falls on a Friday the 13th. No biggie.

I could tell that today was Friday the 13th.

So could I...it SNOWED :(. I mowed my lawn last night, and blew snow off the driveway today. Well, actually like half the driveway because I got to pissed off to do the rest because it was still SNOWING...in MID APRIL... Although, this beats the desert this place was last year. I am starting to see in a round-a-bout way how the global warming must really be changing the weather patterns, as it is NEVER consistent here at all anymore.

Today went fine but monday was the worst for me and was also the first day doing cleanups.
Walker mowers was working perfect for a while then at one point it wouldn't start. Opened it up and tried to find the problem. Called my dealer and talked to him then called a friend in the area who's a landscaper and he said he'd come down, he found the safety swith that may have been falty, so we unplugged it and cleaned and the mower started. Used it for awhile and then it woundn't start again. finally did and so i just put on the trailer since i'd already had at least 2hrs. of downtime with it.:(

During the first cleanup i was blowing out a bed near the foundation of the house and see this creature, though it was a cat then relized it was a SKUNK:eek: I was only a few feet away.

Was working across the street from a school and sports field and it was also the first day of soccer practice. All the lazy soccer moms were parking all over the street in front and back of mu truck and trailer causing a traffic jam. Had to put cone in a row behind the tailgate so they wouldn't block it off.:hammerhead:

Kids don't know how to kick a ball in the right direction it kept get smacked across the street into the yard where i was or hitting the trailer.:dizzy: If it ever hit the truck i would have chased them all with a shovel...

Got home when it was dark and then my backup lights weren't working properly so it was hard to see were i was backing up:help:

... that was a rough day.

TO funny, (not your luck) but that you were going to start a thread like this because I was going to also. All of your guys events were worse then mine. I thought I was going to have a bad day but it ended up not being too bad at all. I only had one thing happen really, I got audited by Saif. They came and checked out the payroll, went through quickbook pro a bit, asked a few questions and were out the door within 15 min. Nice huh? I was worried it would be much worse, but no big deal. Oh, one other thing. I bought a brand new Ex mark 36" TTHP (and LOVE it!!!) but a big bolt and nut fell off from somewhere. I have searched high and low and can't find where it goes. Pretty lame compared to all of these stories huh? God has blessed that is for sure. Hope things turn up for all of you guys. Maybe that will be the worst of it for the season, only good for you all from here.

An aerator fell out of the back of my pickup.

and then:

The police knock on my door at 9:00 wanting to know I smell propane in the house, no. Go outside point out the 2 propane tanks the each neighbor has. Found a valve on top of the neighbors tank has a good leak going, they were out of town today. They get back I show them what the problem was hopefully the propane supplier is working in the morning.

Dang, your aerator get damaged? they heating the house with those tanks? seems like that would be a lot of money down the drain.

First lawn today, my trimmer quits. Just stops like it was tuned off and will not start again. Take it down to my buddies rental shop, which was about 1 minute from where I was cutting. They look at it and seem to think the magneto is bad. The Echo rep is at there setting my buddy up to become a dealer. I ask him when can I get a trimmer, they say they will have it tomorrow. Stop back by this afternoon, and they had picked it up already.
I guess that story was bad and good.
All in all, I have had a really good week. Money has been good. But, I have had the $hits for the past 2 days. That really sucks.

This has been the week to end all weeks. Let's start at last Friday, one week ago.

Bought my F150 from a friend on the 1st of April. Take it in on the 6th to get the title transferred. Oops, some moron typed in 1 wrong digit on the registration, so I have to take the truck to go get a VIN inspection. Title matches truck perfectly, but old registration doesn't match the title. So I go to get a VIN inspection done courtesy of the WA State Patrol, get down there and the guy says that he won't pass the truck because my airbag light is flashing. I knew this had been going on, just didn't think it would be a problem for the inspection as their website clearly states that they do not inspect for anything other than the VIN itself. So I've got a buddy who works at a Ford dealership, drive there, think we get the problem fixed, drive back to down to get inspection done, guy still won't let me pass. Says the light is supposed to come on, stay on, then turn off. WTF?! At this point I'm pissed as hell, so I ordered a new air bag control module for $200. Shows up yesterday, install it pretty easy, light is still blinking, but doesn't blink as much, which I found out means some moron put the truck on an alignment rack and turned the wheel more than 5 turns in one direction and toasted the clock spring I beleive it is. Horn doesn't work, I'm told this is exactly the symptom. Cool, so far I've dropped $200 into the truck and will require another $200 for that issue. Then I got in to take the emissions test. Truck doesn't pass at idle. WA state says that if you go in, take the test and fail, you can go to a certified emissions specialist, spend $150 or more, then re-test for free and if the vehicle still fails they waive you for a year. So I went out and spent $70 for new spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor, plug wires, and a gas cap because the rear tank cap didn't hold pressure anymore. I gotta bribe my buddy to come over and help me get all the parts in before dark. Starting to get dark, got all the plugs changed, wires changed over, throw the rotor in and screw the cap on. Go to fire and the motor just cranks and cranks, no go. Check for spark, sparadic as hell. So we're stumped. Come to find out we didn't check to see if the rotor was exactly the same as the old one, just assumed that the boys at SCHUCKS gave us the right rotor. Wrong, it broke in half. The old rotor wasn't bad so we threw it in there. Go to start, motor tries, but we had 1 plug wire that was swapped so the firing order was wrong. Finally got that fixed and truck runs much better at idle, figured I'd pass emissions easy. Went to take the test today and the truck does worse than the first time. WTF?!?!?!?! Now I still have to get a VIN inspection and pay $150 to get something done on the truck just so I can get a waiver for the year. Now I'm stuck paying $150 a year just to drive my truck. This has been the worst week I've had in a long time. Top it all off I have jobs I can't do because I'm still running around trying to get this crap done. Keep in mind I'm taking 10 credits at college and work 25-30 hours a week in a restaurant, this hasn't made things easy for me at all.

This is hilarious. Gotta love a good ***** and moan thread. Heres my contribution:

Yesterday im out on the road with my truck and trailer etc. Get an important call on the cell so I take a quick right into a side street to talk. get done talking and realize that I can't back my truck and trailer out onto the split highyway i pulled off. So I go forward to turn around somewhere. Gravel raod...goes right into the woods. Starting to get worried as the road is only barely wide enough for my dually. Its some form of emergency road. Turns to dirt. CRAP! The road is raised about 4 feet above the ground with steep dropoffs on each side. And get his...there is TONS of crap all over...stumps, old beds, trash bags, just everything. I get to the end of this road, and it just dead ends in the middle of the woods. Well great. im in about a quarter mile. Why didnt I just back out onto the highway? Im screwed. So I somehow manage to back my trailer down the side of the ditch on one side and unhook it from the trailer. Then I try to turn the truck around. Its a dually 2 wheel drive. Well, the truck is too long to turn around and I end up bellying out perpindicular to the road with my front wheels in one ditch, my rear in the other...tires spinning. Long story short, I end up driving down the ditch and turning around in the middle of a forrest somehow. By shear luck i get my 2 wheel drive f350 up a 4 foot wall of dirt, get my trailer hooked up, chop down 2 8" calliper trees that were pinning my trailer in, and drive out the way I came. Simply turnign around took my almost 2 hours! im just happy I got that thing out of the woods. Darn miricle. -MF

I can relate to all of ya. !
I Need all new equipment . You know it's bad when everything you own wont start without starter fluid! I sold everything I had last year due to a bad realestate investment. It's amazing how much lawncare equipment you can find in peoples garbadge! I have to laugh at myself when me and my patner start fighting at the customers house about why the lawnmower wont start, and who forgot to get fuel.

Shoot I'll contribute as well. Get up Friday at about 7am to install my new Green Touch trimmer racks and blower rack. So far so good. Trimmer goes in like a glove. Go to put my stick edger in the rack and it won't fit in the location. So I unbolt the one side and drill new holes, etc... an hour later I'm done.. Not so bad but it should have been a 15 minute job. Anyway, I get everything buttoned up and back the truck in the driveway to hook up the trailer and I actually backed it up right to the ball for once! Yippie.. Anyway, hook up the lights, chains, lower the trailer down on the ball. All is good. Drop the gate and drive the Exmark on up the trailer. Oops. The whole damn front of the trailer flies up in the air resting right in the tailgate. Guess I'll remember to latch it next time. All I could do is back the mower off and watch as the trailer went scraping back down the tailgate. Truck was spotless and now sports a nice big scratch and a huge dent. It did end up being a good day as I picked up 2 more clients.

I dont really pay attention to the 13th but all this happening Friday day
got me thinking...............................
I recently made a decision to buy a 36" wb at a local dealer. I mention this to a friend who's a mortgage broker. He says that the property that the business is on is for sale. Im thinking if this dealer closes because of this I have a problem. What if I need service/Parts ? I call the owner and he says he knows nothing about it.
Now does he know and not telling me or did I just ruin his day ? Oh Sh#% !
Then I get a call from my mechanic working on my truck. I dropped it off
to do work that failed inspection. (parking lightbulb, damper) He starts telling me about things in need of fixing/adding (coolant flush, tow package, water pump, belts etc, etc, etc...) and now I'm looking at $2000 in repairs.
Screw it ! I went golfing with some friends at 12:30 afterwards I hurried home, showered and left at 5:30 to go visit a sick friend at the hospital.
I call his son, mention Im going up and he's tells me visiting hours are only till 6pm. in ICU. ??????????????????????????????????
