wow thats up. I paid 1.39 last year and was quoted $1.85 this year.

I paid $ 1.40 last year. I would be surprised if $ 1.85 held for this year. I am using coal tar concentrate. What are you using. I know that Star Seal also manufactures asphalt emulsion along with coal tar emulsion.

$ 1.85 bulk coal tar will be a good price this year. The price of sealer may go up but I do not see it going down in the near future. The key to pricing is that even though prices go up, we are all facing the same increases. Our problem arrives when our competitors can get materials at a lower price than we can.

I got a better quote from Star Seal but I need to confirm it first. I pay cash for all my sealer, not sure if that makes much difference or not. Seal Master in Buffalo quoted me $1.85, Star Seal beat that by a bunch, now I just need to confirm the price later this week to be positive.

There is something wrong the quote. Be sure that you are comparing apples with apples. I have a good friend that buys directly from Seal Master. He uses over 50,000 gallons a year. His price is pretty close to $ 1.85 gallon. I am in Pennsylvania so there cannot be a big difference in the supply chain from New York.

Using cash will only help you if the company is not giving you a receipt. If you do not get a receipt, you will not be able to write off your material expenses on your taxes. If you are only doing a couple of driveways not a big deal. Once you start to seal commercial lots and the business owners write off their sealing as an expense, and you do not claim the income, you will be dealing with the IRS quickly.

Im refering to the price per gallon. Star Seal quoted me a price when paying with credit and a second price when paying with cash. I require a receipt either way. I only have about 150 jobs, but hope to double that this year and will need all the receipts I can get.
