unforseen problems/mowing styles

I'm starting my own landscaping company. first with lawn/yard maintenance, and maybe more later. what sort of problems might i run into, that i'll not be expecting?

also, how do you guys mow? the guy i worked for for the past two years learned on golf courses. we mow straight lines throughout the lawn, and then go once around the border letting the tire run along the edge. does this seem correct? are there better/more appealing ways?

i try to take out that border and only have straight lines running through the yard...the clients personal preference is always right though...
