this afternoon, i got a call from a friend who went wheeling in his subaru(same freind i towed another subaru for). he got stuck in a mud pit way out in the middle of nowhere on a closed mountain road, with his girlfriend. My first response was laughing at him for taking a car with a blown headgasket, and more rust than car up a mountain and try to go 4 wheeling. Then i grabed my trusty tow rope and headed out to get him, the road up there was closed off, and for good reason, it was so washed out, i was afraid i was going to bottom out my truck(but i didn't) when i got to him, he was super stuck, i hooked up the tow rope, and started pulling. unfortunately, i got stuck too, after some careful maneuvering, we got the truck out, and i was able to pull him out from another angle. i have a picture on my cell, of me actualy in the field, but i can't get it to e-mail to myself. so here are some pics of the truck after we got out.

figured out how to get the picture uploaded, it is actualy worse than it looks, there are two huge ruts where the front and rear tires are. and it ran out of clearance in the center.

If that was me, that would have convinced me to get a lift kit. Great pics.

i'm gonna get a 3" lift, something not so huge that it demands attention, but just enough. and i need some good wranglers on that, those all terrain tires that are on there now, just cake up with mud and give you no traction.

thanks, and, oh yea, i'm happy i wasn't in the astro, i wouldn't have even made it up the mountain road, never mind the mud pit. i don't even think i'd go up there and try to get him out with the van.

holy crap, thats crazy, i almost sunk my new truck last week , pulled off the road to park the trailer on grass, but it was just solid mud underneith, i knew it sometimes gets wet there so i already had it in 4x4 comming off the road.. well i got half off the road and tires started to spin already so i never stopped and just spun it back onto the road lol.
I figure it this way, if i sink my F350, what is going to come out in 4wd to tug a 8k truck out?

people know not to call me if they get stuck... they would be $hit out of luck unless the jeep can get them out.. My truck does not touch dirt lol. Dont ask me why I got a 4x4.

I had a buddy that borrowed my dump trailer to haul some cut up concrete (contractor) and he planned on dumping at his house, well there was a foot of mud ontop of the frozen ground. He was in a 06 F250 Crew cab with 8k in weigh behind him. I pull in with my 06 2500HD Duramax and proceeded to pull him around in a circle to a point where he could dump the load and then pulled him completely through the mud pit, trailer and all. Its all in the tires and power. I had my programmer turned up and also have 33" BFG A/T's that RIP through ANYTHING.
Looks good, I wish I had more mudding pits, I have gone through some hairy **** and made it, its all in knowing how to drive in mud and snow.

i just bought a 1985 toyota pickup today, 4cyl, 4X4 for $350. rusted to hell, and will never pass inspection, but will make great for beating around the trails, i'll just have to tow it out there with the Sierra. i'm thinking a 6" lift and some super swampers, it has like over 300,000 miles, but it's a toyota and it still runs strong. so now i can beat that up instead of my new truck.

The 22RE motors were built good. It not uncommon to seem them over 300K.

Thats the kinda deal Ive been looking for, you know the kind that it dont matter if you slide into that tree or blaze your own trail every now and then. Off roading is definately not fun for a daily driver after the fun is over

That is my old truck. It never touched dirt either haha. Road Queen all the way. My beater is my 97 Jeep Wrangler good offroad but they can't pull to much stuff out. (At least if they are REALLY stuck.)

this might make me sound like a jerk but thats all the more reason I put el cheapo highway tires on my to F250's. A friend call "help stuck in the mud" I can just say sorry can't help you. I does look like you had a fun time though.
