Excavation, How many guys?

The first day on a job do you send a full crew out or do you send one or two guys out to do the excavation and rough in base.

I ask this because sometimes on the first day when most of what is being done is excavation, I see more people "standing around" then usually.

Just curiuos as to how everyone else handles this.

I think that this point of the job is where good equipment can save tons of money.

1 to run the sciddy-bopper
1 to rake and level
and 1 to run tamper.

All 3 tasks performed similtamiously (sp).

First day is always doing the ripout, and getting materials to the job. Once we have a clean plate, and all materials onsite, then a full crew shows up not before. :)
