A friendly competitor is closing his mowing business and has two, 21" Toro, commercial, 2cycle mowers for sale. They are 1998 models and were used on small yards of about 2500-3000 sq. ft. of actual lawn. They mowed 55 yards/wk in 98, 30 yards/wk in 99, and 25 yards/wk in 2000. Both run good and include the bags. Price quoted is $250.00/mower. Is this a fair price? what do you guys think?

Sounds like a bit much for a trim mower used that rigorously!

I agree with Evan on this one. That seems like a lot of money for as much as they have been used.

4 cycle-maybe. Ihave known people who have had theirs for over 20 years, used every week on a 9,000 sq. foot lawn.
2 cycle-no way.

Offer him $400-450 for both.

The engines are worth that much alone.

Thanks for the input everyone. I am going to offer him 300.00 for the pair. If he takes it, fine. If not, I'll save my money and get a new one at the start of leaf cleanup season.:)

Just remember two replacement cloth toro baggers are worth $150.

If you have four of these 21" toros in your fleet you should have enough parts to keep two in use at all times.

Why travel to the dealer to get raked buying parts? Buy as may cheap salvage machines that are still running or not (then buy them for $25) and keep them around for spare parts.

I get 250 trade-in on well maintained 3-4 year old 2-stroke toros.
Ask his dealer if he has done main. on these machines. Some folks take better care than others.
