I am rebuilding a Briggs & Stratton 3.75 hp mower engine. The model is 98902. The type is 2217 E1. The code is 98110551. The question is I took the bottom off the crank case and the cam fell out before i could mark the timing. How do i properly time the cam gear with the crankshaft gear. I turned the piston to TDC And timed it to open the intake right at the same time but it wont even try to start now that it is back together. please help me. thank you. William
Your crank gear and cam gear should have timing marks and line up.

There should be little dots in each gear to line it up.

J&R is right, Look for a small dot stamped near the end of one of the teeth on both the cam and crank gears then match them together.
OK, guess khouse is in the house ....Got me by a couple, I'm a two finger typer...

ok i see the dot on the crank gear. problem is there are four of them on the cam gear and they look like casting marks but there is a half circle that is cut out of the gear in a spot so i am still lost.
