View Full Version : Poa Anna is soooo pretty...

My neighbor has Bermuda turf. He said that in March, he put down preemergent. He now has a lot of what he described as Poa Ana and yesterday (4/30/07) he put down Scott's Fertilizer and weed control (stated as an April through June application). Will this kill the poa Ana? How long should it take? Is there anything else he should be putting on his yard to kill the weeds right now?

Summer heat alone will control the Poa annua. Give it a few weeks at it should be gone. Application of Simazine on Bermuda in the late summer-early fall usually gives excellent pre-emergent control of this problem. It is unlikely he can do this type of app. himself. Hire a professional.

Are there any DIY remedies?

For Poa Annua control - there is no DIY remedies.
The bad part of this annual grassy weed is that by the time you notice and tillering it has usually produced seed heads which are then dislodged from mowing making the infestation worse.
Professional turf applicators have several options for controlling Poa, but it isn't a one time deal. Depending upon the level of infestation expect at least three visits - if application timing is correct - before measurable, sustained control is achieved.
Additionally, when you are asking for inputs on the efficacy of what your neighbor applied, list the active ingredient as specified on the label, not just the common name as this can vary from region to region.

Corsair will control this. Its a Lesco product. Only apply this in Bermuda and Zoysia grasses. It kill cool season grass. Apply a pre-m in October and it will help prevent the germination of poa-annua
