There are several ways to formulate slow release fertilizer, including sulfur-coated urea. The main benefit, as said, is the slow release of nutrients. Another advantage is that if the lawn is stressed, slow-release fert. may have less burn potential. In sandy soils and shalow water table environments (Florida), there is less of a chance for chemical contamination.
